i was just wondering what the major difference is between them and FJ/FZJ80 besides the fact that they are turbo deisel. the only pages of info i can find on them are in japanese so that doesn't help me. if someone has the specs, standard and/or optional features they came with from the factory, pics, anything of that nature on the HDJ81 it would really make my day. i was thinking of getting an imported HJ61 when i'm done school but since these things will be able to make their way over from japan starting in 2005 i was wondering if i should hold out and get one of these imported instead. thanks,

I've got a lead on a 1998 one down here in Guatemala for $11,000 USD! It has 150,000km on the clock. Turbo diesel, 5 speed, A/C etc. And it's left hand drive to boot!
I'd bring it back if I could.

You're telling me!! I see them driving around all the time down here. To get one for me would be as easy as going to the nearest Toyota dealer about 15 minutes away. Trouble is as you say, I can't bring it back.

Never heard of an HDJ81?

80 yes, 81 no.

Ive always been a little confused over the 81 series and I also saw a 101 for sale??.
If you put Toyota landcruiser HDJ81 into google you get some nice Japanese imports for sale inc 74 and 61

Driving it to the states is NOT the problem. Getting it registered north of the Mexican line IS. I'd like to keep it myself but since I'm told it is impossible to register in Canada before it's 15 years old it's not really practical. If someone else is interested and willing to pony up the cash I'll gladly look at it and if all is well bring it up to the U.S. at cost next June when we plan to be back.

I've driven my BJ60 to Chiapas from Vancouver, B.C. 2 years ago and to Guatemala this past summer so the drive is not a problem at all.

the 81 is a direct injected diesel. the 80 series is either a HZJ or a FZJ. the 81 is a HDT.
simular to the HJ60 and the HJ61

Army tanks Wayne.

Hmmm, a lot of brochures call the turbo diesel the HDJ80 and they are direct injected. Could it be that when Toyota installed the 1HDFT (1996?) the Japanese market designation changed to HDJ81? The interesting thing is outside Japan they still call them HDJ80's.
