I just brought in a 1991 VX Diesel Right hand drive from Japan. Im in the process of bringing it up to Canadian standards so I can register it.
Ive been looking for DOT head lights that will fit. Any ideas?
I know that the US version Lexus 450 was similiar but???? If anyone knows the US part # it would be great.

Also will a 12 volt daytime running switch work on this or do I need the 24 volt version.

Thanks
Kent

Not sure about the part #. I just adjusted mine to point in the proper direction. 12v DRL relay is what you need. Only the starter uses 24v.

Congrats!

There are a couple of places that offer the European-spec 80's headlights (not certain if they're OEM) which would work with the harnesses you have for the headlights and the fog lights (the fog light harness "should" have the H1 highbeam harness bundled next to it if you look carefully).

I guess with proper modification you can install the US-spec OEM headlights. Let me know if you can't find OEM Euro-spec lights in your neck of the woods and you HAVE TO to have OEM instead of aftermarket.

The electrical system on/in your rig should be 12v so you should be OK with the 12v switch for the daytime running lights (I've been wrong before though, but at least the headlights are 12v on HDJ/HZJ's).

GOOD LUCK!

Mot :)

Great taste in vehicles! You can obtain "E" code headlights from ATEB in Vancouver for about $400. They're not OEM but of high quality and plug right in without mods to the wiring harness. You have to accept that you lose the OEM fogs , instead you get Hi's .In reasearching this I have found that the "E" codes (as opposed to DOT) are much more like the original JDM (hard horiz cut off in Lo) but for LHD, and that means much more focused light where you want it. Good luck with it. Tony

You will need DRL, for any vehilces in Canada bulit from 1990 on. You will not need a thrid brake light as it is an SUV. As said the E-code headlights are cheaper than OME (buy just over $100) from ABET or Maxovedrive also in Vancover.
The reflectors appear to be hit and miss depending on where you have the truck inspected.

I'd go with the E code lamps. They are excellent, I've had a set for months. I'm running IPF X51's on 30 amp relays each side and they are extremely bright. They satisfy BC inspection. You should also switch your side markers to DOT as well to be fully compliant. The shop mentioned above is ATEB, not ABET...that's a typo. You can easily install them yourself or have ATEB do it for you.

I covered this in the past with my HDJ81.
1990 - Sept 93 (or 94) from US cruiser is a direct swap.
You can still keep your factory fogs.
Do a search of my threads.

Cheers,
Nick

The US-spec headlights have the outer lows (9004/9005 or HB3/4) and inner highbeams (9004/9005 or HB3/4:D), so if you go this route you will not be able to keep the JDM fogs with yellow caps. Unless your JDM fogs are on the bumper or the roof. :hillbilly:

[edit] BTW, the JDM80 uses outer H4(low/high) and inner (H3 of some sort: fog).

HTH's!
