Hi All. Does anyone know the wires going to the oil pressure sender in a 94 JDM L/C with 1hdt? How many wires and colours to each connectoron the sender ? Trying to get the oil pressure gauge to work and have a new sender but the wires have been spliced by PO and colours are different. Online searches haven't been helpful either as most are for other markets and not Japan. Seen some places that the brass connector on the sender has 2 wires and 1 wire to the spade connector and others showing single wires on both connectors. Not much of an auto electrician myself but trying to solve this on my own. Thanks.

Take out your instrument cluster and fine the connections to the oil pressure sender. On the sender, there is a positive to the central terminal and an earth (ground) which goes to the body of the sensor, or can just be a common earth (hence some have one, others have two wires). Don't earth the cluster positive or you will burn the gauge out. Earth wires on Toyotas are usually black with a white trace, but can also be brown.

On (at least some) 60 series, the wire is a thin coaxial type - the centre filament is positive and the braided sheet is the earth. No idea if that holds on an 80.

Taking out the cluster is a little out my league but if I could get to know the colours of the wires to the sender, I can access them and try solve this from there .

I am in the same boat. Gauge isn't working with current connections. Wires for me are spliced and there is one additional wire not connected to anything. I will pull the instrument cluster in the next couple days and take a look on the back end. I have a new oil pressure sender to put in and current connections look fine so will trouble shoot and let you know what I see in the days to come.

Wires are the problem. Seems like JDM cars might have different wiring , maybe due to having a 24volt starter.

out of curiosity what color wires are connected to the two points on your oil pressure sender? Before the splice that is.

There is a white wire and another white wire with black line but there is another one that hasn't been connected and it's white with a red line.
Interesting. I have a white and a white and black connected to it currently with what look like the original fastners. The third mystery wire is also white and black so not sure if someone got their wires crossed at one point when splicing. Will see if I can get to it this weekend and let you know if I get it working. Need to take off the oil filter to get in there and take off the old sender so will give it a go.

NO!
Only the starter is 24 volts.
