On a trip to Kelowna this weekend, I discovered my 1HDT appears to have the cruise control governed to a top speed (via GPS) of approx 120 kph (corrected for my larger than stock tires). Anyone else noticed this on their HDJ81? I've had the truck a few months and this is the first time I noticed it! Is there a way to adjust this speed? (Not that I need to cruise faster, just curious).

I think the manufacturer programs them this way to save themselves from law suits.
I not sure if it can be adjusted

Cheers,

Thats probably for JDM only. I think the oz and euro models are 120kph

Mine doesn't have a cruise control and it's not an auto, but cruises well over 109 or 120 km just fine. :D

Sorry guys.
I should clarify.

The max I can set the cruise control at is 109 kph.
If I was going 120 and I set the cruise it would drop down to 109 kph.
This is finw with me because I usually cruise at about 105kph (which because of tires is actually about 97kph on the speedo).

The truck can go how ever fast it is capable of going.
I think the most I have every had it was 140kph or so when passing.
Had power left. Not sure how fast it would go.

Cheersm

Thanks for all the responses. My speedo reads around 109 but with my larger tires, my actual speed is around 118 kph. So it's normal for a JDM. Good to know.

I havent tried this but I did find this info on removing the cruise control governer,,

>R507 is a position on the cruise control computers circuit board. To access it you have to remove the cruise control computer, up under the dash kick panel area drivers side, and take the circuit board out of it's case (taking precautions to avoid static electricity damaging the components on the board). You will need a minimum of a antistatic strap and a anti static mat grounded would be better as well. Find position R507 and solder in the appropiate surface mount resistor carefully. This is the sort of thing you need http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=item&id=R0953 Note there are three wattages and sizes of SMR so you will have to measure up where it solders in to see if you need a 0603, 0805, or 1206 size surface mount resistor. Use a very small delicate soldering iron you don't want to fry the computer.

Oh boy! Been looking for a solution to this problem. However this doesn't look very fun... There must be an easier way to adjust the cruise control limit. Not that I don't mind soldering or anything but what ohm value of resistor do you need other than finding the right size(body dimensions)? Is it the actual 20R resistor in the link or just an example of what it will look like?

6.8k 1/4W
Real tiny suckers, had to check resitance across several times to make sure contact was good.
Although i said it was pretty easy the risk of damage to this expensive board makes it worth getting
someone to do it if your unsure.

Does the "0603, 0805, or 1206" refer to the physical size or some code for the resistence? If it's the size, any idea which one it is?

How about the "20R" - what does that refer to?

I've done lots of small, DC electrical work but haven't used resistors like this before. I've been avoiding doing speedo correction simply because I like being able to use cruise control at 120+ km/h :grinpimp:

Yeah 0503, 0805, and 1206 are the sizes of the resistor. That link with the 20R resistor is a has a 20ohm resistance. The part number from the Altronics website should be R8176. I found out that 1/4watt resistors like the one Martin mentioned only come in the size of 1206 so I ordered 10 because that is the smallest order I could get. Heh it only cost $2.50 cnd. If it works Adam I will send you a couple for free. I really don't think I will use all 10...

Ok I lied I just found out that the auto industry also makes the 1/4w in smaller sizes. I'm gonna order the other small sizes and find out which one is the right one. I'll let you guys know later here since they will be comming from Australia.

Hmm...well it actually does look like 1/4Watt surface mount resistors only comes in size 1206. Altronics sent me an email of the part numbers for the smaller sizes but it turns out that the 0603 and the 0805 are 1/8Watt resistors. I will keep looking.
