Hello,
I am a complete newbie, bought a LC100 HDJ100N a couple of years ago, changed quite a bit of it (general services, bearings, bushes, shocks) and drove like a charm until yesterday. What is happening is that when I put the selector from parking to drive or from parking to reverse I hear a "clunk" noise. Also, when I give gas and decelerate and give gas again the clunk noise comes back. It is random, it can happen for a couple of days every day and then stop for another couple of days. Any idea?

Model : Lc100 HDJ100N
Mileage : 158k Miles

Sounds like driveline wear or front diff bushing, both are very common.

The splines get worn over time, creating slack. I have replaced both CV's, drive flanges, fully rebuilt the front diff and it I can still feel it. Not as harsh though.

Thanks, what are the long term implications of this? do I need to get worried?

Long term yes you need to fix it- the good thing is you have time. Start with the easy stuff first, grease the drive line, then look up the front diff bushing, lots of pictures and videos on that. Check to make sure the U joints are solid.

Thanks, I will have a go at it, will update here on how it goes!

I think I need to do the same service on my 05' LX...I experience the same "clunk" when shifting into D from P or R.
