Can anyone help my land cruiser has a problem when changing gears it over revs even when not moving if you rev it to 2200 take your foot of it will rev out to 3000 then drop i now they have a throttle control censor but also have air intake temp censors im hoping its not the pump its been like it since ive had it probably 7 years im just getting annoyed with it any input would be helpfull

Speed sensor in the injection pump needs to be recalibrated ( air gap reset ), which often means a complete pump overhaul.

To test this, remove the wiper blade fuse and take it for a drive, note the speedometer will not work with the fuse removed. You will notice an instant drop in revs as you change gears. Alternatively disconnect the speedo cable at the gearbox.

If you don't want to rebuild the the pump, you can put a switch on the clutch pedal ( similar to a cruise control disconnect switch ) and wire it to cut the speed signal from the pump to the ecu on gear changes. This is most cost effective and works well.

Thanks for your help will be trying things out today finally ive got some place to start looking ill let yous now how i get on cheers Rivo

I know its an old thread, but just had my pump rebuilt with a new speed sensor and wondered if you ever resolved the issue. Did you also get a whooshing sound, not turbo sound , but almost like the throttle body was opening and closing quickly when the revs dropped back down?
