Aloha,

Cruiser Newbie from Hawaii here. Woody suggested I post an introduction. Just bought an 89 FJ62 today, 212K miles with a rebuild about 50K ago. It was a SoCal vehicle and only on the island for about 4 months so rust free.

At any rate, do folks here have suggestions on what to do next? From driving it home today, it certainly seems as though an alignment and minor tuneup is in order. What I really could use is some advice on a checklist of things to do next from some of the more experienced members. A "what I would do next" type of list if you will. I'll post some pictures in the next day or so.

The Big Island. I live Hilo side, near Volcanos National Park

Been there many times. Beautiful! The Big Island is my favorite, and perfect
for a Landcruiser. This past sept. I saw a clean black fj60 for sale in Waimea.

Welcome:flipoff2: (official salute) you'll find anything in here by using the tools of the site like the bottom "search" and if not just write about your cruiser and we'll help in whatever we can.

Sorry to hi-jack your post, but I was wondering if there are any other FJ60/62 owners on the island of Oahu who post on this board. If so, shoot me an e-mail sometime, Joel.

Welcome Volcanocruiser!

Another 62, big week for new 62's on Mud. ;)

You mentioned a couple things you know you need to do, next change all the fluids.

More important to us - post some pics! :D

Welcome. I'll be in your area in a couple weeks. Shoot me a PM, or I'll send you one, and perhaps we can get together. I'm pretty good at assessing the condition of a 62, having owned one for several years now.

Welcome to MUD, show us some pics!!!

Maintenance beginnings
spark plugs and wires
pcv valve
dist cap and rotor
all fluids including diffs
thermo and gaskets

Here are the pics of the Hawaii FJ62

Eh Howzit?

Thanks to the folks who responded with the warm welcomes and advice. Here is a pic I took of the new ...err experienced FJ62:

Thanks, I've seen Dog a few times as he has an office on the Big Island. Bugger about Hawaii is picking up parts. Just spent most of today sourcing odds and ends online. The advice I've received on the forum has really helped streamline the process.

Mahalo all!
:)

Sounds like you're on the right track.....you found Mud. Past posts are like a library, get in there and do some research.

When I got my truck two years ago I created a spreadsheet and entered all the "stuff" I wanted to do to my rig AND estimated the costs sometimes using my labor and sometimes using shop labor. I know this sounds anal but I then prioritized all of this so that I could justify the buildup. The generally accepted first priority is fluid changes and routine maintenance and driving the rig as is to find out what issues may show up.....

I love the big island. We almost moved there. I would think about some rust proofing to the under side and anywhere there is a crack or crevass. Land Rover has a good cover on this. my2 Bill

Hi volcanocruiser, from coffee country.....just wondering if you picked up any more insight into possible wrecking yard/cruising resources here on the big island. want to rebuild my baby a little bit.

My first order of business would be rustproofing! I've heard the POR-15 is good stuff. When I liven on Maui I really had to keep on top of the rust or pukas would pop outta nowhere!
60s have certain spots that seem to be prone to rust, so do a search and you'll find the answers.
Welcome aboard!

There have been quite a few lately, anyone catch the thread where the dude answered the question about the 'G Series' 60 series? It was like a billion years old. Do people just search old threads with unanswered questions?
