My wife bought an 87 60 series for Christmas for me. Yeah she's pretty much the best wife ever :). Anyway my question is we are leaving for BC for a family vacation next week. It looks like I'm buying some ARB stuff through dshock from MUD and I'd like to save some cash by picking up everything in Renton, WA directly from ARB. The items of concern are the ARB bumper and the tent rack with the tent. We will be driving her Highlander for the trip with our two kids. With the single seat folded down do you think the bumper would fit in the back and do you think I can mount the rack and tent well enough on her yakima rack for safe transport on the interstates?
As usual thanks for the expert advice!

The rack and rooftop tent are pretty heavy. Do you know what the load rating is on the Yakima rack?

Let me know when you have a plan.

#1 The guys at ARB are great ... very nice and extremely helpfull. I mostly delt with Chris in Tech. Guy bent over backward to make everything work out.
#2 As stated above...the bumper is HUGE...I put a 60 bumper in the back of my 80 with the 2nd row seats folded all the way forward......took almost all the room

I think the load the rack can handle is only 150 lbs. I would call ARB but they appear to be closed today. Does anyone have the rough dimensions of the bumper so I can measure the back area with the single seat down? We have a trailer I can take but would prefer not to haul it behind us for 1 week before picking up the ARB stuff on the way home.

Thanks D'Animal I didn't see the measurements the first time I read your post. We will have the two kids with us so I'm curious if I can stand it up on edge somehow and make it work.

That is on edge just like it would be installed.

Better figure 12" thick. Mine is 11" + but not quit 12"

Trailer?

Well, if you have a trailer, I might be able to help you out. You could leave it in Renton, if you have a way to lock it up. I can send ARB a note and work out the details.

If you are concerned about it walking off, I have a friend in Cle Elum that would keep it at his house in the mountains (30 miles out of Seattle).

With the bumper, the rack, winch, tent, etc, you will be happy to have the trailer!!

Take the 60 and tools.............throw the rack on the top....slap on the bumper ....throw the OEM in the back and call it done.....................

Time to break her in ......................... good trip (while gas is still cheap)

I might be able to help get the stuff to Bend. Where is Southern Oregon? Send a PM if that is helpful.

x2 on take the 60...

The Yakima load 'limit' is due to lawyers. I've had 400lbs+ on 2 bars for transport, but for permanent mount/use you'll want 3 bars.

I'm guilty on this too. I had a piece of steel tubing up on my Yakimas that weighed 360 pounds. I think the Cruiser would have handled like a three-wheeled shopping cart full of bowling balls if it weren't for the OME heavies, but as it was it was no big deal... until I had to get it down without the aid of the overhead lift that was used to put it on. Ouch.
