So I've recently come into owning an 01 LX and I want to take her on an adventure. Trouble is, adventuring isn't as fun without fellow adventurers!

Is anyone in the Hattiesburg or surrounding areas, within a reasonable distance, interested in camping/overlanding/wheeling in a group? I've yet to find any good places around here.

I'm really up for any cool adventures, and I'm pretty solid at working on things too. Let me know!

Cheers,
Rick

I work in Hattiesburg but my rig stays in Gulfport. Depending on when I maybe able to link up with you all.

there were some sand pits and the red hill that i used to frequent in my jeep days....not sure theyre any fun in a cruiser.....

someone down there can probably elaborate more.....

I'm up in Jackson, but I wouldn't mind driving down that way for some camping/trails, probably not a lot of wheeling just yet. I've camped at some of the camp grounds around seminary etc there and done the canoe trips etc. Not sure what else is around that way though. Haven't looked into that part of MS too much yet.

DeSoto is a great place to camp and do some dirt road driving. It's about 30 minutes southeast of Hattiesburg. Black creek is way better to canoe than Okatoma in my opinion, as it's mostly National Forest Wilderness. Camp Shelby is within DeSoto too, so there are some interesting Middle Eastern style buildings used for Army training. If you're into dirt bikes/dual sports, there's a pretty nice trail called 'Rattlesnake Bay'.

I love camping down there. There isn't a lot of Wheeling available, but it's a lot of fun. Let me know if you want to ride down and hit the trails!

There is no real "wheeling" that I know of anywhere in Mississippi that is public.

That's why I've embraced exploring the backroads and dirt roads.

I want to get down to Homochito and explore. It's on the top of my list.

I was just over there camping weekend before last. There are tons of great roads to explore, and if you get hungry it's a pretty straight shot to Natchez. Definitely worth the trip. And if you're up for a hike, Tunica Falls(Clark Creek Natural Area) are about an hour to the South West. There are like 20 something waterfalls, and the rock formations are pretty bizarre for Mississippi. The hike is pretty tough though. The waterfalls are worth a trip.

Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely be making it down around that way. Getting a camping trip planned for November/December, but the next one might need to be in Desoto.

Hey that'd be great. Let me know in advance and I'll show you around. I grew up on south end of desoto. Here are some pics of where me and my buddy camped there a couple weeks ago.

Pardon me for the Land Rover. I hadn't got the LX yet at the time....

Also, I make a mean beef stew.

A buddy was just telling me about Clark Creek. Said its some great hiking. Homochito is a great overlooked spot. Used to go there to get away from New Orleans when I lived there.

Hey Justin, sorry I never responded. I'm on Mobile and it just showed me your response. So I'm actually from Wiggins, so Gulfport isn't too much of a stretch. Not jealous of your commute though.

It's all good. Yeah you aren't far at all as I live real close to Saucier. I haven't found any good wheeling area's unless you want to travel some distance which I haven't been able to do just yet.

Nothing but mud holes around here which I stay away from.

The drive isn't bad. I get put in a company vehicle so again it's not that bad. Much more pleasant of a drive than I-10.
