Hatch struts, anyone tried these? (1 Viewer)

The key part in that ad is "these do not include brackets" and an implication a ball stud included part will suffice. The 80s rear hatch struts are permanently attached to the brackets which attach them to the body. You cannot simply reuse the brackets with a new strut. Someone here ordered some from I believe a different Ebay vendor and got no brackets. You might do a search to see who it was. I'm pretty sure the thread ended with them returning them.

Thanks Doug, looks like another call to CDan:beer:

There is another way to go other that OEM.
Saves a little money but does involve modification.
Search arouch it will pop up

I ordered one from cdan a while back, with shipping it was in the $80-$90 range. The other strut died last two weeks ago and I started looking for a cheaper alternative. My first few attempts didn't work but I found regular 10mm ball studs at Cabelas for $7:

I drilled and tapped the existing holes, bought a regular strut at Pep Boys for $20..it works very well. Later I noticed that the struts for the hood have a bracket on one end and attach to a stud on the other...I suspect those studs could be ordered from cdan and bet no drill and tap would be needed...allowing you to use an inexpensive and locally available strut. Good luck.
