Has anyone re-geared a 200-series yet?

How have you found the re-gearing to be worth it? I have 33" and will be towing a 2K trailer.
Yes. Best upgrade. Use it every single second. Truck much more agile feeling. I never drive 100 so missing too end speed irrelevant.
it is pricey and I’d only recommend in conjunction with a rear or both locker. But if you’re in there totally worth the Squeeze

I was thinking of going to 33's or 34's as that looks easy compared to going to 35's is that correct?

Are the only gears available for the LC200 4.33 or 4.88 ?

Since I have 3.31 gears from factory would the 4.33 be the best choice for the 33 or 34's?

I frequently low light, military trailer with stuff in it, or small 19' boat or small overland camper. (under 5k).

and I'm going to install ARB lockers at the same time.

@Fisher23 , I think the 3.91 Tundra gears will work, too. Haven't done it, and probably won't, since I am running 285/65-18 BFG ATs (32.6"), and maybe will have 285/70-18 (33") mud-terrains in the future as a maximum size. But that gear may be an option.

My 2017 does fine with the slight oversize, but we'll see once I add winch, sliders, skid plates, rear bumper and carriers, roof rack and tent, etc. I have done some towing with these slightly larger tires, and I don't see much difference with stock gearing. I did see a gas mileage reduction just from the extra drag vs the stock street tires. But now my odometer and speedometer are right, where they were a bit off before, so that obviously had some effect, too. Probably a little of both.

I think the 4.88s are overkill for the 2016+ unless you are really planning to stay in rock crawling mode or you have every add-on known to man putting you 2000# heavier, or towing a big heavy boat or something like that. The 8 speed already has a wide range, and a slight re-gear to something milder than 4.88 could be beneficial, IMO. I would think that 1st gear on the 8-speed with 4.88s is basically useless in normal driving, unless you are real heavy or towing regularly. You are probably going to be using tow mode on the transmission anyhow, and that will keep you out of the high overdrive's of 7th and 8th gears. But, maybe the 4.88s allow those to be more normal in the heavy load condition? I guess others who have done can answer that.

Thanks ..

I want lockers installed.. and I need to re-gear to install them.

The problem with the 2016+ (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020..) is Toyota now put in "thick gears" so the ARB lockers (and all other lockers that I know of) will not fit the front differential unless you re-gear to thin gears. If the lockers would fit I would not even bother re-gearing, as the 8 speed trans handles it fine.

The rear locker will fit but not the front.

This is the first I've hear of this issue... multiple sites show the same front air locker for all 2008+ LCs. Where did you hear this?

I have an LX, so no KDSS and narrow 35s an easy fit. I was very careful about width and offset. Not everyone wants skinnies.

The newer transmission is a different challenge to regear, you could look for take off 3.9s from an earlier gen, or go to 4.3. Like some have said first in the 8 speed is already pretty big, it would be more for towing/agility that ratio if you did need to regear. There is a thread running around with the ratios in a chart, maybe give that a look.

I was told the same. 2016+ no front lockers. From what I understand, you can get a older housing that will allow you to put a front locker on the 2016+. I have a 2018 and was going to get both lockers but was only able to do the rear locker since a you need a larger housing and my installer did not know that but was only aware of the fact that the lockers were not available for 2016+ in the front. I should have done my own research at the time but really a rear and center locker is pretty damn good.

Directly from ARB Tech support in Washington State.

The the 2016+ have 3.31 are thick gears, so you need to install thin gears for the locker to work in the 2016+ front end.
With the thick gears there is not enough room for the locker to fit in the front differential housing. The rear fits fine.

You can keep the original front housing. Unfortunately there is no 3.31 thin gears, or else you could keep the 3.31 gear in the rear and just re-gear the front with a thin gear.
So technically their front air locker works with the 2016+ front provided you re-gear. Which is why you see the new dealer builds with lockers have re-geared.

Curious what you think the ball park price is for regear and lockers plus install? If i need to be more specific, ARB lockers wit htheir compressor.

Lockers are $1000 each. Gears are $1500. 12 hours labor. All retail prices.

You can price out a complete custom 3rd member set on www.justdifferentials.com. $5,429 for just the built 3rd members, no gear oil, no compressor, no labor. This includes $750 in core charges. Prebuilt drop-out will cost more up front, but will reduce the amount of labor required to R&R. I would guess another 10-20 hours in labor depending on the shop and installers.

Another option is mail away to zuk. You have to think what works best for you and do that. Just gears at home is around $1750, you need sone special tools and getting the settings correct on the gears can be tricky. Add lockers compressors shop labor and it adds up quick.

Is there a 3rd member rear and front diff with approx 3.9 gears that will bolt into a 2016+ ?

Or is there a list of what gears came in what year and models of LC200's ?

I have 4.88s + front and rear lockers in my 2016. The front was a difficult install but the Valley Hybrids team figured it out. The rear required a 2015 third member and a custom pinion spacer, if I recall. Both are available from Just Differentials now. I believe newer 2016+ builds are using 4.30 gears which are more appropriately sized. I'm happy with my 4.88s, though.

Hey Folks, trying to determine if the 3rd member for 2016 landcruiser are different than the earlier models. I'm planning on using 2016 3rds to do Nitro 4.88s in my 2008 LX. I just wanted these 3rd members so I could build them up without taking the truck out of commission. I'm not planning lockers at the moment.

IIRC, the transmission is the easiest way to tell. The rear differential is unchanged between the 6 and 8-speeds. There is a change in the front differential that will require a core from the 6-speed models.
