Has anyone had any problems with plastic waterpump impeller?

I ordered a oem waterpump for my hdj81 and it has a plastic impeller was just wondering if anyone has had any problems. I know there also ones that comes with metal.
 
No and you never will. I have replaced 3 on 1HZs over the years and the impeller was always in perfect condition. The OEM pump is plastic or nylon, I don't think anyone else makes them .
All the pumps I replaced were leaking past the shaft. They all seem to go around 250000klms

Thanks for the reply. I will be changing it soon. Mine isn't leaking but also doing the timing belt which seems that it was already done but cant read the label and dont know when it was done. My hdj has 127km now

Those water pumps take a long time before they need changing after they begin to weep. The current pump will probably last till the next belt change at 200kklm.
 
You have to pull that alloy cover off. By the time you are in that deep you might as well do the cam oil seal which means removing the cam wheel,valve cover and air tube.
And of course water pumps means coolant change. I ended up doing the whole lot including a radiator flush and hose replacement. Cleaning surfaces and parts adds more time Must have been 2X6 hours days. But I do it at a casual pace.
In FJ62's case I would have just done the timing belt, idler and spring.
 
It's not like it's that hard. If the timing belt is off it's like 30 more minutes...

gues in 1HZ it's more easy ..? coz that was hell and back in my lifted HDJ80 ..
 
I took the radiator out, swung the Aircon compressor out of the way and moved the PS reservoir to make it easier. It is an easy job, just time consuming and you spend hours hunched over the front in an uncomfortable position and its worse if you have a bullbar

Lol. Well thanks yes i have a bull bar.
 
Bull bar don't make it easy. I guess being tall helps get in there.

If you change the wp and do what rosco said it will take a few more hours. Nothing bad though. The first time I did it was buttoned up in an afternoon.
 
It was extremely easy on my 1HD-T? I feel like I'm missing something.

You guys make me feel like I'm under 50% IQ .. damn ..

I know I'm slow worker but it took me like 4 hours to get the part where you need to pull the top sprocket .. by that point I was already tired.

That was the point where I was fighting my puller against my rad .. just to realize later ( next day ) that I had leaky rad .. ( from that puller fight ) not to talk about the cleaning part of the pump surface on the block ..
 
I spent more than half an hour getting the alternator and aircon belts on. They were so tight ,even with everything slacked off. I was starting to wonder if they had given me the wrong belts.
Using a crush gasket on the WP is much easier than trying to fit a paper gasket covered in Permatex:mad:
 
I ended up putting the belts on with the fan pulley still loose. Then managed to get some of the nuts on to keep it in place and then progressively tightened them till it was done. I don't know why they make them so tight, maybe saving on rubber
