Dumb question and yes I did check FAQ first....

Anyone know the weight of a fj40 hardtop circa 1975?

I am thinking of using a lift from the garage ceiling to "store" it, but not sure if the top weighs more than 250lbs. That is the max for this particular lift.

I took mine off with a little effort, just awkward.

My top with hatch type rear window and all glass was 291. That is with the diamond plate around the edges...

When I was 17 I could get mine off by myself by getting inside and using my back up against the roof and lifting, then walking it off, I can't now because my back is shot.............wonder why.

Less the rear hatch and extra checker plate, it is likely under 250 lbs. The rear hatch is quite heavy I'd estimate at least 40 lbs.

I took mine off of my 77 last year for the first time. I was doing it by myself, so I took it apart. Based on my perception of each component (not including amb doors) I'd say it's less than 250#. But with the posts, weight distribution and shape it would be really akward and tough to get it off by yourself, if your considering that. I'm glad I disassembled it and can store it much easier. Here are a couple of pics of how I store the fiberglass roof. Keeps it safe from the stupid stiff I do in the garage. Oh and a quick word, a guy at CCOT told me that the fiberglass roof pieces are really expensive, so if you take it all the way apart be careful with it. It's manageable, just need to be cognizant of it. Enjoy the topless style....it rules.

I did the exact same thing at the exact same age, but that was 30 years ago. My dad hated the top in his backyard, till he realized he could put the mower and stuff under it, then he hated when I would put it back on.

I was thinking 200# might be the most weight I would want to use with it and then reinforce holding it up with straps.

Or I'll just search for lift that can hold over 300#+ to be on the safe side.

Thanks again for all the feedback and ideas. Just looking for a way to get it off and get it back on if I wanted to w/o calling over friends to help etc.
