Welcome :flipoff2: (official MUD welcome)

I haven't looked at the rig so no comment there but as for putting on a hard top...I don't see why you could not do so but finding that old of a hard top in decent condition may prove to be very difficult...And that age of hard top looks a lot different than the later years (corrugated look on the sides, etc.)

IMO unless you are buying that to restore and keep original I would keep looking.

^there would be no point in restoring it and then slapping a hard top on a factory softtop rig....would there??

lunyou

Any FJ-40 hard top will fit without major issues.

I believe 64 or 65 was the last year of the corrugated side panels. 67 style will be the same from 66 to 74. You can put a later model top on a 40 as far back as 64. Before that the pillar were the side panel post goes into the tub is different (it's approx 6" taller). That's why aftermarket soft tops only list from 64-84.

Thanks for the welcome. My intensions for the rig would be to eventually do a restoration but keep it as original as possible It looks like it is in pretty good condition . As for the hard top I was just wondering if they could be interchanged (my own curiosity) but you are right trying to find a hard top that old would probably prove to be difficult it would remain a soft top. Thanks for the feedback

If you want to sell your factory soft top, do some research, they are worth some serious $ when they are in good shape. I would hold onto it.

That said, a hard top is nice when it is cold out.

Welcome man, post up a few pics of that cruiser when you get a chance.

Good info to know...So a '66-74 top with the hatch would be what the prospective buyer should look for. Someone mentioned any hard top would work but I know once you start trying to fit a top with ambulance doors and one meant for top mounted wipers vs bottom mounted things go from simple to more difficult in a hurry...At least for a 1  dude like me :D
