I have a '78 FJ40 of which I just removed the 350 Chevy and Advance Adapter (for sale). I'm installing a '81 Austrailian 2F of which I was able to get the hard motors mounts for that engine from the original source today. The '81 motor mounts are different from the '78 motor mounts so I'm told and the question is, do I have the '81 hard mounts welded onto the frame of the '78, or do I hunt around and find '78 hard mounts and put them right back where they were originally. I'd love for the '81 hard mounts to be welded to the '78 frame with little to no mods. I have an original '81 that has been untouched and I can use that one as a point of reference. So, if I measure how far back the '81 motor mounts go on the reference vehicle, can I be certain that that same distance will be the correct spot for the '81 mounts on the '78 frame. Someone suggested that I lower the motor onto the frame with mounts installed and weld them in with motor hanging off the cherry picker. Any words of wisdom about that? Thank you all!

Post up some pictures of these engine mounts you have, and the frame brackets you are talking about...
