As you might know, I bought my '85 LC on Saturday in Montana and drove it back to Denver. I replaced a missing bolt in the EGR tube but couldn't get the big nut off the other end and the compression gasket seems to be missing (I'll need to order one soon) so needless to say I was sweating bullets when I had to get it smogged. GOOD NEWS! It passed smog with flying colors! WooHoo!

Now I can concentrate on new tires. And suggestions for tires that'll fit my stock Toyota rims and stock suspension? I have some Yokohama Geolander AT/S on my PU and have been pleased. I've heard I can fit 31x10.50-15's but they seem a little big for teh rims? Are 30x9.50-15's a better choice?

31x10.50 will fit fine on the stock rims with stock suspension.
33x9.50 or 10.50 will fit the rims, but might rub depending on your suspension sag.
Depending on what you want the tires to do, BFG ATs have really good tread life, are good in snow, and decent offroad. I've got 70,000 miles on one of my sets.

31X10.5X15s will work fine. 33X9.5X15 also will work fine EXCEPT you gearing with stock differentials (3.70) will be taller. With 33's you will find that on flat highway, they are great because they drop your RPM's; no appreciable gas mileage savings..sorry. But, if you get on a long incline, you will be in 3rd gear going 45 mph. That may or may not be a problem to you, but be forewarned. BFG AT's are a great compromise for all situations. However, the gravel roads around here ate my first set after less than 30K.

Thanks guys. I'll be on the lookout for some 31x10.50-15's. Had some on my '86 Toyota Turbo and they were great.

I just wish my rims weren't chrome. But I can't afford tires and rims right now.

Sand them and paint desired color.

Lol, that sounds like work. :grinpimp: I thought about it, maybe even having them powder coated. Biggest issue is lack of time to block it up and send the wheels out. Black would look good though. Know of any spraypaint that actually holds up well?

Krylon works, if they flake just touch'em up

Used to be a black called Morton's available at auto paint stores that stick to chrome.

You should have been sweating bullets! Ditto on the 31x 10.5. Mine rides and drives like it was made for that tire size (stock, saggy suspension).

Welcome to the 60 world.

Thanks again for the tire info.

Immediate plans are to replace the compression washer on the EGR tube, get the front end checked and aligned then get the tires. Ulimately I'd like either a roof rack and rear bumper where I can carry two Jerry cans. Lastly, I'd probably like the OME suspension.

Nothing too drastic as it's mostly for hunting & camping and bad weather.

Did I miss anything?

Oh yeah, the dent at the leading edge of the driver's side door, that's from a mule deer that ran full speed into the side. I guess that makes the rig Deer Tough, lol.
