I haven't figured out how to install a full-size FT-2800 Yaesu in my Tacoma yet, a remote-mount FT-8800 would be awesome but funds are an issue right now. So, I decided to redneck my Yaesu handheld. Used a Larsen 1/4 wave mag-mount on the roof, passed the cable through the door, got an adapter, (SO-239 (UHF Female) on one end, SMA Male on the other) for the antenna to the antenna connector on the handheld. Also got a Yaesu microphone / speaker as well.
Originally I had a mount that worked OK for a cell phone (friction-grip mount velcroed to a mount on the dash) but it never really worked right. So, looking at all the amazing stuff that RAM mount makes, I came up with this solution:
Super sturdy and it works really well for my needs.
I used the following RAM parts:
RAM-HOL-BC1U, mount for handheld radios with belt clip
RAM-B-238 RAM 2.43" x 1.31" Diamond Base with 1" Ball
RAM RAP-272U DIAMOND BASE WITH OCTAGON BUTTON
RAP-B-200-1U SINGLE SOCKET ARM WITH OCTAGON SOCKET
The grey strap is a spare I had laying around I got it from REI a while ago.

Yes, that's a RAM GPS rear view mirror mount and magnifier.
And lastly, a detail of the radio from in front:
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. This setup holds the radio securely, I knew going in it would not be a 100% perfect fit and i would need to use a strap. The strap does go over the speaker, but there's a speaker in the microphone so it's not an issue. As for that mic/speaker... I'm not really too fond of it. It's more of a lapel-type device and I'm going to replace it with a larger / louder one.
Regarding the in-dash bracket, it's from Panavise, made specifically for the Tacoma. I didn't even have to drill it for the RAM mount stuff. And yes, they make one for the 80 series / 100 series. The link below is on Panavise's website, I found a 100 series bracket on Amazon.
