any recommendations for finding the part?
No problem! Don't give up on the old girl! Maybe just give up on the brush guardThanks for the help!
No! Get with @dbenke, pulling a driveshaft is easy. David knows these things inside and out... We can pull apart the axle and figure it out for ourselves. Do you have factory lockers? If it turns out to be the rear, and you don't have factory lockers, why not just install an Aussie Locker? Much cheaper than an OEM 3rd member and will give you TONS of off-road capability.I need to figure out if its the front or rear. McIntosh imports wanted to take the whole drive shaft off to figure out which 3rd member i need to replace. Unfortunately they were not going to be able to do it for another couple of days and i needed my car back to get to work. Should i take it back and pay them to figure it out or is there another option?

So what you're really saying is... We should trade axles?I have front and rear factory lockers
When im accelerating, there is a roar and it gets louder from 20mph-50mph. Once i hit 50mph, the roar dimmers down. Also, the roar immediately goes away when i let of the accelerator. McIntosh initially told me that i had a pinion bearing go bad. Then they told me that i needed to replace either my front or rear 3rd member depending on which one was bad.So what you're really saying is... We should trade axles? You may have said so already, but why do they suspect the 3rd member is bad? What is wrong with the truck?
I had that same thing happen in my old 60 @Cameron Oakley . Mine got to the point where it was almost not driveable (and/or I would've been front wheel drive!) Local mechanic told me it was a $1K+ to fix if they did it. I ended up getting a used 3rd member from cruiserparts and Glenn @ Lextech installed it for considerably less - but that was before I knew this gang! If you can source used parts from someone on MUD iike Beno and bring it to a HAMOM, we can all help get 'er done.
So it made the same noise? i just need to figure out if its the front or rear before i find the part
