Picked up this RIG runner to help wire up the 2m in the truck. The RIGrunner allows me to pull power into the cab from the battery, also is has two USB ports to power the Ipod, cell, etc.

Question, suggestion on the position of the 2m in relation to the driver position. Where should I mount the radio?

The faceplate of the radio should be perpendicular to your line of site for best viewing. The LCD control panels don't have quite enough off-angle view-ability, for me, to mount it otherwise; probably more important for a dual bander than single. Otherwise you want the dials within easy hand reach for quick/easy volume and squelch adjustments on the fly...

This is where I [strike]have[/strike] had* the FT-2800 mounted in my FJ40

It works pretty well there, it looks like you could mount yours to that shelf dealio.

*I pulled the 2800 out of the 40 last weekend to put in the 60. I found an old ICOM IC25H for $35 that will go in the 40.

thats pretty sweet, the Rigrunner panel. Thanks for posting that. Looks like something good to keep stuff charged up as well as power up the radio. I found out that the school district i work for is having a ham class with the local county sheriff / emergency operations center. its free, but its 8 weeks of Thursday night classes which start tomorrow. Guess I am on my way to getting a ham too.

8 weeks? There are ham crams which teach you want you need to know to pass the Tech examine which only take a half-day or so.... or you can study on your own for 4 to 8 hours. Best, I think, to put all the study in the 48-72 hours before the examine session.

yes, 8 weeks. its through the school district and my boss thinks it's a good idea. we get our license as well as a free hand held radio. I think it is also slightly different as we are also doing some emergency training related to disaster response in regards to schools as well. i know doing the 1 day cram/test is a lot faster, but I think think is good for me/my job lol.

Spector, but Cool Cruisers sells them as well

What's it mounted to?
Nice job as per usual! You are probably more anal than I am it seems.:D

So the radio install has gotten a little out of control after putting the 2m in I "Needed" some tunes so I pick'd up an amp and some MONSTER speakers and wire'd that up. Now I can play the IPOD tunes through the amp, had a CB in the draw so I put that in as well. Major A.D.D. issues going on. The Speakers are...well...a little big.

After hooking all this stuff up I took the rig less front bib to Moon Rocks to see if/what stuff would fall off, quit working etc., and well all the electronics stayed in place and worked fine, but I managed to put the front pumpkin onto a rock. Stay'd there for a while thinking Lockers would be nice while the front and rear wheel just spun in the air...but the stereo sounded nice. :hillbilly:

The same rattle I have in my 100, we need to chase that one down, it's fawkin annoying as hell.

BTW if you really want annoying install the third row seats, they add a whole new range of squeaks and rattles.

The first gen Tacoma's suffered from a dash rattle as well. For them there was some HVAC ducting behind the dash that required a small piece of foam to isolate it. Not sure if the 100 suffers from the same ailment, but there was a TSB for the Tacoma.

Mine sounds like a metal bolt rattling around on hard plastic. It definitely sounds like its up under the PS airbag somewhere. I've stripped that area down including glove box, ECU, etc. but for the love of God I can't find it. I've even had Sandy drive it so I could try to find/isolate it to no avail.

The next course of action, because its just too obnoxious to ignore, is to disassemble that side again this time removing the air bag assembly to try to go just a little deeper.

It started on our return from our Explore Nevada/Jarbidge trip.
