Hi Everyone,

I am going to get my Ham Radio license and have started researching what radio/antenna to get.

What do y'all recomend?

Thank you,

My personal favorite rig is the Kenwood TM241 that puts out up to 50 watts. This was produced in the early 90s but ebay has lots of them. The Yaesu FT2400 is also a robust rig with military specs (circa early 90's). These two I do recommend.

Antenna wise, get a 1/4 wavelength from either diamond or comet.

The Diamond F22A base station antenna is also a top notch.

I dont know where you are located but check if there is a Ham Radio Outlet (HRO) nearby. They can help a lot. Good luck.

What band? 11 meters? 2 meters 70 centimeters? There is no such thing as a one antenna all band antenna.

You want a 2 meter for sure and if you get a dual band it will be a 2m/70cm. There are antennas that will do both of those bands in one antenna with a coil in the middle.

2M/70CM is probably the most popular for the recreational user. Check your area for open repeaters in those bands and see what kind of coverage you might get.
