Hi,
I rebuilding my h55f from my bj60. It has 625k Km.

The gears for 5th don’t like up perfectly. They have a slight offset. Is this normal? I attached a photo, it might be hard to see.

Here is mine. Looks aligned to me.

No it's not. Whats the thrust clearance on counter fifth gear? Is this before or after you have rebuilt it?

Is it possible that after the rebuild, the trust washer clearance is greater?

As I see it, there are three possibilities:

1) The box has been rebuilt and the output shaft centre bearing (OSCB) has not been pressed fully onto the first gear thrust washer. This is the hardest stage of building an H55F. You would be able to check this by measuring the 1st gear thrust clearance.

2) The box has been rebuilt and fifth gear has not been pressed fully onto the OSCB - this can be checked with the thinnest feeler gague you have. There should be zero clearance here.

3) The box has not been rebuilt, or has been rebuilt with worn parts that are out of spec, and there is severe wear on the counter 5th gear thrust face and/or thrust washer. This could be established by checking the counter 5th gear thrust clearance. In this case, counter fifth gear would be free to move back and forth, and could be pushed forward to align with fifth gear perfectly.

All thrust clearances should be measured before and after rebuilding the transmission to check everything is correctly aligned.
