I've been looking on the net at prices for a new h55f transmission. They seem low but still a biit pricey for me. I'd get the correct input shaft to go with it, so thats some more cash. The original trans has no known problems except it feels a bit sloppy, sometimes the synchro seems off just a little, if thats posdible. No leaks at all. 155,000 km on the odometer.
If I decide to rebuild I'd be paying for the labor... I will not rebuild it myself.

Just wondering which choice others have made.
Thanks.

A 155,000 km H55F shouldn't be close to needing a rebuild.

What are you running for tranny fluid? The H55F in my BJ74 shifts noticeably better with Redline MT-90, which is a full synthetic GL4. I would give the stuff a try before considering anything else.

It might be worth checking the shift seat as well.
H55F Problem

I switched to redline synthetic 2 years ago.
Shifting from 1st to 2nd improved a lot.

1st to 2nd is never a pleasant shift. Most owners take off in 2nd. I only use 1st in tight carparks or steep hill take offs

i was thinking gearbox overhaul at 400000km in my case on a r151f …:)
still shifts and runs fine, but its noisy when you release clutch at idle.

thought h55 is somehow stronger than r151?

for rebuild, where should I look for a bearing/gasket gearbox kit?

Remove, palletize, ship to Valley Hybrids: @orangefj45 , he does his epic work on it, ships back to you. Install.

That’s what I would do.

California is far away.
Unless there is a miracle of self-healing, I will pull the motor in the Spring to replace clutch and throw out...something creaks and squeaks in there and it drives me crazy. (That is separate from the clutch pedal creaking I also have). Seems like a good time to get gearbox checked out.

Thanks Georg.
That is the route I will take for now.

Clutch fork possibly showing some signs of wear or the clip that secures it?

I tried using an incredibly cheap flexible boroscope to see what is going on. Worthless junk of a tool.
