Hola amigos. I've had my '83 FJ47 H2 for 10+ years and she's been great, BUT for the last five years I've been unable to keep up with this forum and my build dreams. That appears to finally be changing after many mornings of getting behind the mule to get the plowing done. ANYHOO ... I fired the old girl up the other day AND she's barfing oil from what I understand to be the centrifugal oil separator above the oil filter (see pic). I did not realize that part existed or was there until now, SO looking for any advice on sourcing/replacing necessary gaskets. I ran a search through this sub forum, but returned no results. I remember how awesome this forum was when I first got the old girl and joined (sadly my 5 year hiatus resulted in deletion of my account) so thanks in advance for any thoughts, guidance, etc.

There's actually two O-Rings in the centrifuge.. The only gasket is between the filter housing, and the oil cooler cover. You can see the O-Rings in this set of photos I have (part numbers included):

The centrifuge should actually be cleaned every 3-4th service. I bet yours hasn't been opened since it left the factory.

Additionally.. you appear to have an oil filter sandwich adaptor installed, possibly to supply a turbo (?), oil cooler, or secondary oil filter.. and it may be this leaking. The sandwich is the thing with two hoses coming off it in the photo.

Its also possible both the centrifuge and the sandwich are leaking. Looking at the photo, I'm tending towards the sandwich adaptor leaking at the top with only a very minor centrifuge leak.

If there's no turbo installed I would, personally, remove the sandwich and return the vehicle to a factory spec - additional filtration/cooling is not required.

You rock. I do have a turbo and an oil cooler, which explains the sandwich I guess. I'll order the centrifuge O-rings and clean that. What do you think about the sandwich leak? Don't suppose you have similarly awesome photos and parts numbers for that do you? ;-)

Also, I joined that FB group ... uh wow. Let the education begin.

The sandwich adaptor is not a Toyota part, a variety of manufacturers produce them. It's anyone guess how that yours seals, some have O-Rings and some don't. I would remove and inspect but there's some risk if you disturb it that you may struggle to get it seal properly again if you don't replace the O-Ring (if it has one) and finding the right size O-Ring for a generic bit of equipment can be challenging. If this is a project and you can afford to have it off the road for a while then I'd definitely remove for inspection. You can always replace the entire part with another brand new generic oil filter sandwich adaptor if necessary.

Again, thanks for all the info. Are the oil filter sandwich adaptors "universal" or do I need to search for a 2H specific adaptor? I did that for a minute, but found nothing specific to H2. I'll keep looking if it needs to be specific to that housing, but thought I'd ask you first.

You need an adaptor that matches the oil filter. Its an M30x1.5 thread with an 84mm seal diameter. I am unsure on whats available in the US. Jackmaster in Australia sell one, I suspect any really decent parts shop would have a catalog for locally available stuff in the US. The Oil Filter on the 2H is not an uncommon one.

I dont think you'll need to replace it though. Remove, inspect.

Here's one current example in Australia.. Oil cooler sandwich JACKMASTER fits 30mm Filter Toyota 6cyl 2H engine | eBay - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252847016186
