I'm in the market for a reasonably clean, stock 05+ GX470 or 07–09 4Runner with 100–150k miles. I'm trying to get a sense of what "normal" pricing was on these.

I've done a lot of research on the GX and 4R, and in doing so have come across threads 1–3 years old discussing purchase price. It appears vehicles meeting my parameters were selling for $10k–$15k. Does that seem accurate? I recognize there is currently a premium on used vehicles, but in case I sell this vehicle within a few years, I don't want to have paid 150% of what these were going for in 2020.

This forum has already been hugely helpful. Thanks in advance!

I recently bought a 2006 w/ 200k miles. I paid $13000 but also paid $3500 for deferred maintenance, so $16500 total. I do believe I overpaid a bit.

It is crazy what is happening with prices. Good time to sell. Bad time to buy. But then again, it may get even worse so maybe it IS a good time to buy.
For what it’s worth, I paid just under 13k at a dealer for 2008 with 164k miles. That was in March 2020. I felt it was a bit high but I wanted that particular color combination and it was very clean.
Wish you all the best in your search!

If it helps, I recently sold an ‘07 4Runner 4x2 SR5 with 130k mi. in excellent condition for $13k. I got full price cash in 24hrs. I’m in AR.

Right now finding a decent GX with 150k or less for under $15k is a good deal. I lucked out and got mine a year ago for $10.7k. If i didn't love it so much I'd flip it. There have been zero nice ones on the local market since I got mine. A buddy just paid $13k for a clean '02 Tundra and it took him a year to find one It's nuts out there. Unless you really need one now I'd wait until 2022. This is a bubble and it will eventually pop.

Paid $11k for my 2008 w/169k miles in March 2020 and $15k for my 2010 w/134k miles in August 2020—both with flawless mechanicals and great histories. I could flip both for a substantial gain but I won’t. Especially the 2008. We need a pickup truck so my 2010 may end up gone unless we buy a utility trailer. If I sell I would like to sell to someone who will continue to work on and love on it.

Yeah prices are insane. My current gx is my 3rd one. I bought my previous one in 2015 with 125k on it for 6000. My current one I bought 1.5 years ago for 4500. 169k. Granted it needed some frame work but there’s absolutely no way I’d pay today’s prices for one.

If you need that 2010 gone, let me know. It would be in good hands.

Gasoline prices may cause more to go on the market in the near future.

Thank you everyone for the input. It was helpful to confirm my gut feel on what typical prices were a year ago. I'm not in a huge hurry to buy, so I'll continue to actively search for a fair deal while also hoping that prices will start to normalize next year, whether due to market stabilization or gas prices as Cout noted.

Everyone else’s posts seem to be correct but I’d add it’s highly market dependent. Where the gx is popular out west i see a 3-5k premium over someplace it’s less popular like the Midwest. I cross shop Michigan and arizona (parents in AZ so they could pick one up) and it seems like the arizona trucks with similar miles and condition go for 3-5k more than here. You may have better luck scoring a deal from a dealer who is relatively clueless on the GX upward trend vs a private party who actually knows what he’s got.

The entire economy has inflated quite a bit and it's on track to keep going. I wouldn't expect values of anything to go down much. Depends on condition, location, mods included, and history... but generally, in 2021 dollars;

$25-30k will get you a clean one with under 100k

$15-25k will get you one 100-150k miles

$10-15k will buy you one with under 250k miles.

Sub $10k? Probably has well over 250k miles on it and needs a few things.

These run forever, and the 4.7 will hit 1,000,000 miles if you keep it that long. I wouldn't shy away from a higher mileage model at all. My 03 has 270k on it. Out West they all need new leather, it always looks like s*** even under 100k miles in a dry climate. That is a lot less work than dealing with rust and crust from anywhere else.

Chiming in on the longevity of the 2uz, 472k miles and still going strong on original drivetrain.

Lots of things to fix from neglect, but the core of the vehicle is solid.

I’ll sell it for 15k i know what i got 😉

In certain circles, 20k is the starting asking price on GXs ranging 100-250k miles. Some are absolutely trashed. There is no rhyme or reason to pricing.

If you want a good deal find an metropolitan area where rich old people tend to be in higher quantity and stay on the lookout.

There's a shop in San Diego (Largest Inventory for Used Toyotas | Miramar Motorsports | San Diego - https://www.mmsportinc.com/inventory) that I used to think sold overpriced GX470s by doing the water pump/timing belt, lift with basic OME or Dobinsons, and TRD Pro wheels on BFG KO2s 285/70R17. Now they look like a bargain! Check them out. No affiliation here.

They’re still a rip off. 4K in extras isn’t worth the 10-15k markup

Edit: look at this s***. About 4K in aftermarket done and that’s about a 10k markup.
Stock that truck should fetch around 20k. 2005 Lexus GX 470 w/ Sport Package w/ KDSS | miramarmotorsports - https://www.mmsportinc.com/product-page/2005-lexus-gx-470-w-sport-package-w-kdss-1

Newsflash; No dealer actually has ‘deals’.
Ive dealt with some very honest and fair dealers. Miramax feels like they’re target audience is clueless tech bros who want some shots for the gram

Honest; maybe. Willing to lose money? Nope. Dealers don’t have a ‘deal’ in sight.

I’d sell mine to a tech bro for thousands more than I paid, and so would you. They’re just doing business their way. You don’t have to buy from them if you don’t want to.

The clowns asking $100k for a new Bronco they paid $45k for are reaaaal douchebags but again… I’d take that ROI all day.
