Hi All, Trying to wire in some Hella's onto my wifes GX470 and am having some issues tapping into the high beams. I have my relay ground, power run and was testing to make sure exactly which wire to tap into. My issue is that no matter which wire I try, the lights come on when the lows are on. Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

Lane

Where are you trying to tap into the wires? Right at the headlights? Seems like if that is the case, it would be pretty straight-forward, right? Like, you would tap into the power wire that is going into one of the high-beam bulbs?

Also, if we can't figure it out here, I know Mud's 120 forum is always pretty slow unfortunately, so I would also try posting on t4r.org and toyota120.com.

yeah, right at the light. however I guess since it is a switched ground you have to reverse the switch (relay #85)..... thought I had it but did not work. project on hold till I can get the wifes car back in the garage. will post progress.

thanks

Ok, I got it. So I wired the (85;switch= yellow) and (86;ground= blue) (yours could be opposite) wires into the lines running to the high beam bulb. Ran the (30, power=red) to the battery. Ran the (87, Black=Power To Lights) out to the lights and grounded the lights on the frame. We now have Hella's on ONLY when the highs are on! Woo Hoo. Finally. Gotta give props to Erik @ Wiredwagon LLC for helping point me in right direction.

Good to hear you got it worked out. Also nice that you posted up what you did, so that if anyone else ever is trying to do something similar, they can base theirs off of yours. Again, good work, no we need a pic!

its actually all heat shrinked and taped up....sorry. but the basic need to know is the ground and switch wire have to be wired into both wire's going to the high beams. (you will have to test to see which wire's) meaning one ground wire on one high beam wire, one switch wire on the other high beam wire. hope that makes sense.

Haha no I wasn't saying that you should take pictures, I was just saying it was good that you were specific about your relay wiring.
