Let me start by apologizing if I've broken some forum taboo about posting about random noises on a 10 year old vehicle.
I bought my 2008 a year and a half ago and have put on about 25,000 miles. Thus far the vehicle has been nice and quiet, with no offensive noises whatsoever. I understand that a car this age will inevitably start making noises, but I want to fix the ones that I can.
An obnoxious chirp (like that of a cricket) started emanating from the front driver side of the vehicle recently. I can hear it distinctly coming from down by my legs, lower left of the steering wheel I think.
check out this link to hear an example of it:
That's not my vehicle in the video, but it is the exact same chirping noise.
It happens with the slightest bump in the road. The following are the steps I've taken so far to determine the source and remedy.
1.) I cleaned the little rubber bumpers on the inside of the hood and the driver side door. As I understand they can sometimes squeak.
2.) On the advice of someone on youtube who posted a video of the noise in question, I replaced the hood strut on the driver side.
Has anyone else experienced this distinct chirping?
I can't seem to attach an audio file, so I guess that's the best I can do in conveying what it sounds like.
(Bonus question: Another noise started after putting new rotors, new brake pads, and wider wheels and heavier tires on. She's developed not so much a clunk as a knocking when going over bumps in the road, it sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the wheel well. i think just from the driver side. Old bushings? Loose fastener? A demon sent to torture me?!?!)
Thanks all!
