I had my AC system serviced yesterday - 1lb of freon added and the system evacuated. They added dye; supposedly this it type will only show major leaks and so additional dye/troubleshooting will be required if it is a slow leak.

That being said, I am considering putting together a parts list for the AC system. I was hoping another user might have an opinion on a good aftermarket set of AC lines and compressor... although I tend to prefer OEM. I am guessing some if not all of the parts could have straight Toyota part numbers? Thanks.

Adding dye and freon is temporary but the dye tend to stay in the system until you replaced all the components. Common leaks are Condenser and the rubber hoses, evaporator could also leak but you won't know it until you open up the housing. Compressor have a tendency to have front seal leaks and hard to see if dye leaks out. Dye will show up eventually even with real slow leaks.

A Denso compressor is $235 on Rock Auto, so that it probably the route I would go. However, I'd be surprised if your compressor was bad, unless the shop tested it and noted it had some problems (presumably they would have watched the high and low-side pressures when they were evacuating and refilling it), or if the leak turns out to be at the compressor itself. Usually a AC system leak is an O-ring somewhere, which is a super-easy fix. The rubber lines should last a very long time (20+ years) unless they are damaged.

Regarding the lines, I've had OK luck with aftermarket AC lines from Rock Auto (in a beater Subaru Forester I had where I rebuilt the whole AC system). But they aren't something I'd want to use for a vehicle I was planning on keeping for a long time. They are basic Chinese copies of OE lines and they are not OE Toyota (or even OE Subaru) quality.

You might be able to get OE Toyota lines cheaper on Partsouq. Things like brake lines, AC servos, etc are often half the price on there as my local Toyota dealer.
