I currently own a 100 series Land cruiser with over 250k miles.
One of the main reasons I purchased the vehicle was because it was bullet proof.
I have always come from camp KISS.
I want my next purchase to get to 250k with as little headache as I have had with my prior purchases.
Do all the creature comforts and ride improvement technology make this a much less reliable platform?
I am wondering if I should purchase a gx470 for its simplicity, or do a full refurbIsh on my 100 series.

My wife and I both had the same year (1998) 100 series Landcruisers. Traded hers in with 285k miles on the clock for a Tacoma. I'd take hers cross country in a hear beat, it was so reliable and still strong. Just getting tired looking. Seats were wrecked, paint gone, etc.
I traded my LC for a GX460 and again, my LC had 255k on it and I'd that cross county also! Just that rust was starting to set in I didn't want to deal with that. Both never needed any major repair.
Because Lexus is a Toyota product, that is specifically why I purchased this, so it will last several hundred thousand miles!
My family have owned many Toyota's and everyone of them as had over 200,000 miles when we got rid of them.

I only have 45k on my GX but I can guarantee you, you will want a (2010 on up) GX 460 over a (pre 2010) GX 470.
Several reasons: these are used like crazy by soccer moms across the country and as such it's really hard to find them with less mileage than average. Heck, it's hard to find them with even average mileage on the clock sometimes! So newer will get you lesser miles on it.
If you look at the upgrades from the GX 470's to the GX 460's, just to mention a few, you'll get a stronger engine, and better MPG over the GX 470. If you go with a Premium or Luxury edition GX 460, there are features that aren't available in the GX 470's.
Take the time to look research what the changes were between.

Sounds like you should be looking at 40-60 series LC. About as KISS as you can get!

If you want a little comfort then stick with either LC or baby LC, or lexus in general(made in Japan Toyota’s are ok too). Sadly electronics are the weak link on any car. The 80 series is probably best of both world in some regards but it’s old so a lot of work.

Choose your poison I guess. If you just want comfy car for 250k then just buy a new lexus and drive.

I’ve got a 2010 with 135k - never an issue other than routine maintenance. Drives like new. Only complaints are the radio/ac integrated head unit (still works, just doubt it can be upgraded) and the weak front seat leather (started to show wear earlier than expected and would be a tough type of leather to match). It is very capable off road, but only performance upgrade was to go up to the 265/65/18s. I have the “base” model w/o the adjustable suspension - less to break!
