Apologies for starting a new thread; search results didn't return anything on this topic in this forum.

My OEM rear door rod broke-- the clip securing it to the ball at the rear of the car broke. I cannot extend the strut to reconnect, so I removed it.

I could: 1) Replace the rod with OEM and go back to what it was. 2) Replace with a gas strut similar to how the 470 folks seem to do.

What would you do and what is more cost-effective? The only requirement I have is that I have some kind of limiter that protects the hinges while costing as little as possible. I'd do a strap like a suspension limit strap if I didn't have to worry about it being trapped in the door.

Goal here is to protect the hinges from wind at minimum cost. The effort to close or open the gate is acceptable to me.
 
I don't have any suggestions, but I can't stand how if I'm on a slight incline the door swings fully to the door rod full extension with a clunk. I would love to know if there's a way to make it have more resistance, or replace it with something that does.
 
If you get a thick enough strap, similar to a tow strap, when you attach it to the door and the inside frame, use a piece of material (plastic) as a wedge to attach the strap to the door and frame. The wedge would be the width of the strap with the wide part of the wedge facing away from the hinge. This should ensure that even when the door is fully open, it should close while pushing the strap outward and being close in the door when shut.

When you close the barn door, the strap should protrude outward preventing it from closing in the door.

That’s brilliant, I’m sorry I just now saw this.

I’d need to think through how to attach said straps to the panels. My gut says rivnut(s) with a grommet(s) through the webbing.
