Hi All,

Last night I started what will be a multi-day after-work lift on a 2012 GX460 premium. First time working on suspension but its actually going ok. Got everything dismantled in back but I had a question: On the old rear shocks there is a plug. Does this plug need to be reattached to the new shock? Or dummy plugged and zip tied or something?

Thanks in advance! Reassembly starts tonight. One of the rear airbag was definitely failing/broken so I'm glad I got in there

Mine isn't too bad, I only did 1.75" F and 1
5" R
Wanted to make sure to still have some droop.

In the end, though, I am with you and long travel is the goal as that seems way more attainable than a SAS.
Having helped do a GMT 900 SAS conversion with a WFO kit, yeah, even with all of the stuff laid out its a bear to get right. LT is the way to go for yotas if the goal is droop and articulation.

It's funny, I don't feel like it is so high in person. I have had several lifted Tacomas and 4runners, all at about 2.5-3" and this is about the same in terms of CV angles. I'll grab some more pics today and get the CV angles and add them here. It drives great with the heavy springs. This thing is heavy as hell even without a bumper and winch. Only additional weight from my side is slides and skids. 3rd row, spare, and hitch are removed in the back, so the ass-end is actually lighter than stock.

The KDSS diagnosis was low pressure due to a failed pump and potentially leaking lines. $4k for the pump and $3k for the lines!
I think like R2m, I was just shocked at how it looked. Maybe its the 33s playing tricks on my eyes? Stuff on 35s has been our mo for a long time.

Short answer is yes. Some of us who delete the AVS stuff just leave the plugs.

did you delete the AVS? I would plug it back in if it allows for it.
I'm going back with non-electric aftermarket shocks and wasn't planning on a full delete if I can get away with it. I remember reading that you don't have to pull everything on 2nd gen. Definitely ok with it not being functional but don't want it to throw lights or mess with the other systems.

Yeah, the tall skinny 33s kinda produce an optical illusion. Your rig looks great! Are you on 35s?
Yeah its the wife's, I just care for it. Yeah 305s. Looking at downsizing to 255s, would like 25lbs back on each corner. Looking at the photos the body lines seem to land on the same spot on each our rigs. Your viper cut too is subtle and really makes a difference on the appearance.

The 460s AVS system drives me nuts someone maybe metal tech makes a dummy adaptor for non AVS shocks. I am working killing all the lights from removing the avs (i didnt do it the prior owner did, and did it the 470 way which caused lights)

I went from pizza cutters to some very light LT 285/70s and it drives like a dream, almost as good as all seasons and still able to play. Rotations are way easier, and it's good in inclement weather.

Revo3s for the win.

haha i think its all fictional until I can convince the wife to get rid of the meats, she loves the look its got.

I was in Asia, seeing tons of Prado on the road and on used car lots, one thing I couldn't help but notice is the ground clearance. All the Prados (assembled in China vs. in Japan, spare tired on the back vs below), all have KDSS I'd say? and they all appear taller.... are they adjusted to be higher than the GX460?

Apache off-road
1/2 inch was all that I needed. Removed the bolt and heated fender liner. No rub with tires. Really made a big visual impact in person.
Love your look and trying to replicate. Did you install one spacer as instructions seem to suggest (I have kdss), or on both fronts? Any kdss mods? How easy was install? Not super confident myself, but willing to try. Thank you!

Having been in the Philippines I didn't feel the Prado to be higher. Do keep in mind Toyota has localized plants so there can be technical differences, plus I know in the Philippines they buy Japanese cars and literally convert them from right hand drive to left hand drive... and do a great job, I bought a Mitsubishi and the gear lever gave it away. In Thailand the Fortuner is a different beat altogether... epic ground clearance though, must admit. Only drive a Ford Everest there (pos...)

Just moved on from a 2004 LX470 to the GX. Really enjoy it so far. Bone stock and trying to determine just what I really need based on how I use it rather than buying the goodies because I like them. Not as easy as it sounds…
Drove the Shafer Trail and switchbacks at Moab last weekend and really enjoyed it.

Congrats! I didn't do anything for the first 6-8 months then I bought a set of oem steelies and put 33s on it.

Since I have been slowly dealing with issues as they crop up opposed to throwing the catalog at it. Had it 2 years now and very happy with how well these rigs do everywhere.

If you're looking for a little more off road capability without going crazy, bang-for-the-buck, it's hard to beat adding Crawl Control and MTS for about $600 with absolutely zero downside to road handling.
