So I’ve had my 2010 460 for almost 2 years now and am seriously considering long travel front and rear. For the sake of brevity I want to limit debate in this thread over WHY to choose long travel, instead, I’d like to hear what setups people are running, how they like them and other bits and bobs related to modifying, fabricating and installing long travel suspension for the 460. Essentially I’d like to create this thread as a resource for those like me looking to make the jump.
I know there are a couple companies making direct bolt on kits, that work with kdss. Definitly Intrested in that, but more Intrested in removing the kdss all together and figuring out a solution for sway bars like Currie, 4Runner parts or others.

I have a few questions to start the conversation:

1) what shocks/springs you running?
2) sway bars… what you doing front and rear?
3) fenders/chopping needed
4) other modifications you need to run long travel?
5) overall impressions?

Definitly lol. I’m still a waze out, just wanted to get a handle on what I need so I can plan out the build. This is just the “what am I really in for” stage. Although I already have long travel springs in the rear (not shocks) Probably going to start there.
First question is to keep the kdss or not..

Skip LT altogether and give the 74Weld portals a go.

Serious question, why?

The Total Chaos kit for these trucks does retain the KDSS (I think its the best part of the GX). While we don't have LT on the wife's GX we do have Total Chaos Upper's. The amount of maintenance that I have to do on these makes LT a total non starter for me. I am already due for a rebuild at 15k on this set. Winter with them is awful. I would still probably go with the TC kit as tits probably the most common.

As to trimming and the like how much tire do you plan to run. We have the liners out on ours, a BMC, and we still rub. 305/70/17s on SCS -12s. I th

I am coming to the conclusion coming from Western desert bombing if I want LT I need to buy something with LT already.

I had hoped to avoid the “why” question but perhaps it’s inevitable. With multiple companies selling kits I’d expect at least a few to be on mud and offer their real world experience. I don’t like the bookface but might have to venture there for answers.

See below answer, while portals are awesome they don’t change suspension travel.

More droop and overall articulation. Also I’m already running 35x12.5 on SCS -10 wheels. Did a lot of work “trimming” and more to go. For LT I’m prepared to cut much more as I’m not a fan of glass fenders.

You might want to hit up the 5th gen T4R, FJ, and/or Tacoma forums for more info. Seems that most LT kits end up on those rigs, and the suspensions are similar or identical to our rigs (not sure how much the Taco shares but I'm guessing it's a lot). FYI, I think it will be hard to skip glass fenders - LT kits typically give you several inches more track width (which is required to give you more suspension travel), so you'd have a lot of wheel poke without them.

If money was no object I'd personally love to have a RCLT on my GX. The kit looks badass and so do the rigs that they are on. It's really the ultimate mod for one of these, but It's just a crazy-expensive mod and my tame rig is more than capable enough for my current uses.

Definitly looking at FJ and T4R setups, we do share a lot with the Tacoma too, I can say anecdotally, as I had a 3rd gen before the GX.
Also like the look of the RCLT setup, if going that route, ie, removing KDSS I’d also consider JD Fabs LCA pivot and LT setup. His stuff looks on point.
I’ve seen a lot of Tacoma LT people just cut their fenders down, and I mean the outside curve, also possibly tub the well.

I had forgotten about the RCLT kit. That to me has some utility as far as clearance is concerned.

I would cut my fenders too.

The TC long travel is the best GX option in my mind because it keeps KDSS, but I also live somewhere with humidity and rain and sometimes winter so that many uniballs and urethane bushings would be a maintenance nightmare.

Nothing new to report at the moment.
I have spoken to JEFFK, and follow his build thread, definitly a built rig.
