I will say the wood isn't too thermally conductive so it never feels as cold as my old 'yotas or Taco's
On the rare occasion I do use the heated steering wheel, I wish the wood sections of the steering wheel were also heated. The wood sections are where I usually keep my hands.
 
Doesn’t it require the Lexus connect subscription? My 3 year “trial” expired and I lost remote start with the key fob. When I had my last oil change I asked them to check my remote start. Dealer said I needed the app and subscription.
This one does not. Works for 2010-2015. Can't speak to later model years but something similar may exist.
As @Cold Iron pointed out, the range is a little poor. Mine is parked about 50' from the window where I stand to start.
Sometimes the range seems short but I also find you really have to mash the buttons to get a response from the vehicle. The shutoff doesn't bother me because I only use it in winter and it is off again by the time I leave the house. Defrosted and seats warm though.
 
That's a pretty good price. How was the installation? I'm mostly curious where the harness is that gets the new connectors inserted.
You just pull off the plastic on the steering column and the panel to the left of the wheel, unplug two connectors and add the T harness to each. Really easy. Here's the install video: .

The only issue is the range of the OEM Key fob. It just barely reaches to my car parked in the street but that is all I need it to do.

I do new fob batteries annually along with smokes, CO2s, water leak detectors and entertainment center remotes. Also some optic batteries for other things. Fresh is better than frosted to a PCB. 🤣
 
Well - the tire carrier lasted long. Got booped by a Kia today. Should be covered by insurance, but wondering if I should do something else other than the stock door + JW carrier.

Thanks for the info! I sort of expect the short remote range is so that your car doesn't stay "active" of you're in a nearby restaurant or something similar.
 
Yikes. I'm definitely going with a half-swing carrier instead of door mounted. Seems to be much less potential for body damage with everything mounted to the frame.
 
Sad day. Booked my coolant valley repair. Hoping the service gods will be gentle. Sold some stock to ensure I can cover it.

I don't know, honestly. While a frame mounted carrier (which is what I'd intended to build before I bought this thing) definitely is stronger, in this situation it might've still cantilevered the tire into the door based on where it contacted the tire. There isn't much around it unless you've gone full steel bumper and even then it's still tight tolerances.

They're going to have to check under the bumper cover too, but I think the hitch + door took the brunt of this one. We'll see.

I'm gonna go with a full bumper and dual swing. Seems like having a rear mounted tire might always be a damage risk if it protrudes beyond the rear bumper, since it would usually be the first thing contacted. Especially if you were to be rear ended by a taller vehicle or back into an obstruction.
 
Honestly this is confirmation bias on staying with a tire cubby in my cargo area and getting a steel bumper with out anything swinging that could bend into the door and rear quarter corners.

Maybe, maybe not. I love how much extra space it gave me inside. You can't really plan for being rear-ended, so I don't think I should compromise on the things I like in order to accommodate for that.

There is a guy in Denver who sells the Prado door kits and will do the install. Her ordered a bunch at once so they are quick cheaper than the Garage Alpha Offroad kits. I'm seriously tempted by that since mine will always be a daily and this would maintain the "OEM" look.

That said, lots of good options, but nothing as cheap as the wood cubby I'm currently using. :)

No kids, I almost never have a 2nd person in my truck and in 3.5 years have only had 3 people about a half dozen times.

I also want to keep my weight down where possible. Also, with my tire cubby, it takes more time to remove the stuff in it then it takes to remove. Only 4 bolts hold it. (They are rated into rated holes from the third row removal.)
 
Having a tire hanging out back or not, you'll still be replacing something, whether it's a bumper and/or a door.
If you're not wanting the full metal look for a tire hanger AND if the insurance buys into it, the Prado door hanger looks nice, albeit, you will not have the lifting rear window any longer, if you ever use it.
