Hi everbody this is my first post here, I came over from the FJ forum. I am a newb to offroading and am planning a trip to Gulches on Aug 21st. I wanted to throw out an invite to anyone that wanted to go out and wheel some. Also if anyone has any tips or what not and what trails to avoid or make sure I do please let me know. I have an '07 FJC that is mostly stock aside from AT tires and rock sliders. And thanks to BMThiker for leading me over here. Maybe I can learn a few things from the people over here as well.

Welcome!! That is the day after our mega-mondo axle rebuild @ the Harbin's residence. You might get a few that wanna break something right after they fix it..... But welcome anyways!!!

Just as long as I dont break anything Im down! :)

I've got the same set up as you do and was able to play on the majority of the runs out there. Go when it's dry and your trails multiply. Go when its wet and have fun in the parking lot. They are all very well marked and will let you know what equip you need for each trail in the briefing when you sign your waivers. I'd run down with you that day but will most likely still be in a coma from a 24hr AR the day before. Let me know when you plan to go again. Have fun.

depending on how the axle rebuild goes (and what time your going) i might be game for some light wheeling....i dont want any bumps or bruises on the body of my cruiser.

Gulches gets kind of narrow on some of the trails... just watch the back end of that cow...

how easy is it to avoid the more dangerous ruts there?

I might up to go with you guys and see what my stock Taco will do along with your FJCruiser if it is dry. I hate mud, especially in my DD. I don't have any sliders, but have some running boards I want to beat up, plus it's got some good AT's instead of the stock street tires. I'll let you know a day or 2 before.

Calvin where do you stay? I live in Chestnut Hill right at Harbison, and I am also just now getting into MTB riding since I have some really nice trails on my doorstep. We should meet up sometime.

it is kind of dry...i get the mud tires a little over a month ago and we have not had any rain since about the time i got them.

Jeremy, I live over in Friarsgate and that sounds like a good Idea. Im also into MTB as well although I havent ridden any since I traded my pickup for the FJC and realized how much of a pain in the ass it is to load a 20" frame bike in the back of one. Hopefully that problem is solved now that I have a bike rack coming from Amazon.

Its exciting to see some people interested in headin up there. I just wasnt sure what to expect there.

what time are you guys planning on getting there?

Calvin,

Too bad you already ordered a rack, I have a Yakima Forklift mount that fits to any size bars, Yakima, Thule, or factory that I am selling for $100. I paid $150 for it 2 weeks before I sold my car.

Delsol, Im not exactly sure when but I figured I would try to get up there fairly early but I am up for suggestions.

Jeremy, well actually I am one of the ones not sporting a rack so I got a hitch rack.

I am out on this run for now. Too many things to get done on the rigs in preparation for the busy Sept. and October events. I'll hit you up in a few weeks for a quick run with the 40 for a shakedown run hopefully before URE with ONSC. If not, URE will be the shakedown run. Are you going?

I just checked the forecast and it looks like a good chance of rain and thunderstorms there from now until Sunday....so I believe thats gonna lead to it being fairly nasty out. I am going to have sit this one out, as I dont think Im ready to handle that place muddy and slick since I've never been there. Oh well

What kind of ordeal is this URE thing?
