Had a good time at GSMTR. I got their Sunday night and their was only about four trucks their. I had a rear tire blow out of my wrecker about 60 miles from camp so I drove on it the rest of the way. So that cost me 450.00 for a tire. Did some wheeling and hanging out early in the week and flopped it over in the Tennessee mud on Tuesday. On Wednesday more people started showing up. Went out with IPOR on Thursday. Friday had a rock crawling competition and Cam got ran off the road on the way to the competition and hit a tree and broke his steering gearbox. So he was out. I entered in it with Cam spotting me. I used the gas and go method and right away I had a sharp pain in my ribs. I still tried to finish but got hung up on the last rock and broke my winch cable. And the pain was bad so Rich checked me out and said that I probably broke a rib.:whoops: So I got to see the local emergency room. After xrays they said that I bruised them. I got my prescription filled and added some alcohol to them so I was feeling good. Since I couldn't go wheeling anymore I let Jason take my truck and go out. That made his day and everybody said he did great. I stopped taking my medicine Sunday morning so I could drive home, that was a painfull trip home. I hope the pain will go away before Coal Mine.

How were the trails? camping? turnout? raffle?

How were the trails? camping? turnout? raffle?

Allen won the $1,500 driver raffle prize. He had to tow home Dale's 4runner after it developed major engine trouble while on the trail. So it seems like the Cahill Karma thing being paid forward by Allen works for winning the grand prize at GSMTR. Someone breaks their truck, you tow it home for them and in return the Cruiser Gods hand you the grand prize. Another reason I need to get a tow rig and trailer...

The trails were very muddy which made them slippery. It rained on Sunday and then again on Tuesday. I really liked the trails and if it wasnt so muddy it would have been better. On Tuesday I flopped it over and when I got out I was in mud up to my calf. The camping was nice and the big pavilion was great when it rained. They had nice bathrooms, showers. They had 85 pre-registered truck but it didnt seem like their was that many. Their was a dinner Friday which was pasta with sausage and chicken. I cant eat the pasta but the sausage and chicken was good. Saturday was pulled pork which was very good. And the raffle was good too. Of course I spent to much on tickets. Sorry dont have pics because i broke my camera. I have some pics and video in my computer and will post them soon.

Thanks to Allen I got home. If it was not for him I would have had to rent a truck and trailer. I need a tow rig and trailer too.

The engine let go going up Trail 1. It was very muddy and slippery with a few obsticals. The engine started blowing blue and white smoke out the tail pipe on the 2nd obstical. From what I have been able to determine so far it looks like a cracked head, but still hoping for a blown head gasket. :censor: I still have more tearing down to do.

I was hoping to make it to Coal Mine, but can't make it now with out a truck. Hope next year.

Attached are a couple of pictures after the engine let go.

Thanks again to Allen.

Dale, im glad Alan was able to help you get home but we would have got you home if he wasn't their. Maybe its a head gasket and you could still make it to coal mine.

I went to my doctor today and they took more x-rays and found a cracked rib so I got a refill on the meds and thanks to my son because he has been a big help with my work.

Im going to try to make it to 4runner jamboree, I think I can handle it as long as I have the pain meds.

Dan, Thanks, but I could not have asked you to get me home with how uncomfortable you were. You needed to get home and out of the truck.

I hope to get the head pulled next week, as soon as my in-laws leave. That should give me the the final answer about the head. What is strange is that the truck runs fine at idle and is rock steady at 750 rpm, almost no smoke. I pulled the new plugs and they have a heavy black oily film on them, the compression check out good with #1 @ 168 psi, #2 @ 169 psi, #3 @ 161 psi and #4 @ 165 psi. The range is from 141 psi to 171 psi with no more that 14 psi between. The engine has not lost any coolant, only used a small amount of oil. There is no coolant in the oil, no oil coolant, on bubbles in the radiator, and the engine temp and oil pressure are normal. The valve clearances are correct, no broken springs, or missing parts, Timing chain and guides are good. I still need to do a leak down test. Will do that before I remove the head.

Dan, can't say I'm familiar with the gas and go method... did they find out how you broke a rib? Hope you heal quickly. I'm guessing you have to wear some sort of binding for a while?

Dale, real sorry to hear about your engine. Please keep us posted on your findings. Perhaps now would be a good time to put in those fancy timing chain guides from DOA. D.O.A. Racing Engines

Dan,

I installed those years ago, and the timing chain and guides are fine.

I have already called Tim at DOA and talked with him about my engine and getting one of his. DOA is only 2+ hours from here so it would be easy to pick one up.
