I believe that all the fzj80s have full-floaters. The fj80s did not. 1993 is when they added the 1fz engine and thus the 'z'. I think the full-floater and discs came at the same time.
In my 'after' thread there are some words about the mod, but the pics got lost when Woody deleted some old chat threads. I had posted them in a thread about welding and linked them from there to my after thread. There's not much to it. We put the axle on jack stands on a welding table and cut 6" out of the passenger side and put a sleeve in the tube. You can see in the picture that the hub is assembled to the shaft custom short-side axle shaft that was made by Bobby Long along with one of his drive plates. The assembly was used to set up where the first tack welds went. There was no precision alignment or anything. We just got it as close as we could to center by feeling the limits of how far it could move, limited by the axle pushed into the diff side gear.
The hardest part is cutting all the link brackets off the axle and nowadays, getting someone to make you a custom axle shaft with a race for the axle seal. I was pretty careful to match the WMS of the fj62 front axle to the finished rear axle. If I did it again I'd make the short side in the rear the same as a stock short side bj70 shaft just so there was a spec to go by. Those shafts are not exactly growing on trees any more than custom shafts.
