Hi! I am a brand new owner of this lovely car. I will be honest- I was looking for something to take me and my dog mountain biking/paddle-boarding/camping in and was thinking of getting a 2017 4x4 VW Caddy. Yknow, something newer, more comfortable, practical... Well, needless to say I drove off with this 1992 Land Cruiser instead! I live in Czechia, it was originally imported from Germany in 1995 and has had one owner since then. 158xxx kilometers on it (about 98k miles I think). It's a 2.4L Turbo Diesel. Cost the equivalent of 9k USD, hopefully a decent price. I just fell in love with it and it looked overall well cared for.
I'm not really a huge car person! Never had a garage to tinker in or a mentor. But I did live in a 1990 VW Vanagon for a little over a year so I know some basics and do love older cars. So I'm happy to join this forum for advice. I'm trying to figure out more about which model and engine is in it, can anyone help? This is all I've decoded from the VIN so far (see attachment).
I'm flying abroad in July so I'm hoping to get it into a mechanic for the time I'm gone and have them treat the undercarriage for some surface rust and do rust prevention as well as a couple small rust bubbles near the doors. Someone has recommended either wax-based or lanolin-based treatment. I'll be looking into that.
The radiator is a tad leaky and I'd like to get it replaced (you can see someone already "fixed" it in the past) the whole cooling system flushed and replaced as needed. Someone has recommended getting an intercooler, so I will try to do some research on what that is and the benefits. One of the tires is worn a bit weird so I assume it needs to be "balanced" (however you say this in English). I'd like new tires too, someone recommended BF Goodrich which should be available here.
Anything else I should be thinking about and having the mechanic look at?
