Got the dreaded CEL/ P0333 knock sensor malfunction. Repair estimates from the dealer and indie shops range from $1300-$2000 (7hrs) Yikes!!
I figured out that this would be a rather involve job if I were to do it myself. Eventually, I decided to give it a go. Here’s what I found: Bank 2 Sensor 1 chewed off by mouse. Apparently, this is a common issue with Toyota’s wiring insulation (soy-based).
Overall, it is a medium to difficult process but at the same time very satisfying project. It took me ~8+ hrs from start to finish. That’s including clean up and testing.
Reference: TIS/ Knock sensor replacement.
Replacement parts sourced from my local dealer. New gaskets (2X) and sensor harness. ~ $70
Torque Spec 21 N-m (ref. TIS)
Detailed the engine bay while I'm at it.
