Those of you on the OBX trip and the meeting on sunday got to admire the racing slicks I was running on the front of my 80. I was originally planning on finding some 16 inch rims and then running some 39" michelin's like Kyle is doing. I couldn't find any stock yota rims for a good price so I decided to call Galloway 4wd today to check their used tires for a 16.5 rim. They had some 37 12.50 16.5's with 15/32 and higher that they let me have for $50 a piece.
Not the best tire I know and a 16.5 isn't the best rim size but it'll have to do me untill I get out of school and get a job that pays more than the monopoly money i'm making :grinpimp:

It should make it to the may ride i'm going to get them mounted tomorrow or the next day.
They are Goodyear wrangler MTs 37 12.50 16.5

Greg and I were talking on the way home about 16.5 inch rims, can't you pick up some military surplus tires for that size rim? GovernmentLiquidation.com could be your friend!

Dont you know someone with a tire machine? :flipoff2:

Hummer wheels would be a perfect match for those tires. Just buy some 6 lug centers, cut here, weld there, and presto, double beadlocks.

actually I know quite a few people :grinpimp:

just that my tires are too bald to drive the truck in the rain right now.

I thought about H1's but they are soo damn heavy with the beadlocks and run flats installed.

I'm looking forward to actually seeing the truck in action at URE...

Clint, when did you get the hanna sliders?

suuuuuuuuuure ya did:rolleyes:
Glad youll be able to make the ride.

Clint, when did you get the hanna sliders?
He had em at last july/aug URE ride and didnt even use em :D
worthless thread without pics.gif

Pics will be up tonight..... right now i'm going to see how fun it is driving home with unbalanced tires. Got to wait a few before the bead bags brake and start to balance them.

Like J said. I got them a week or so before the URE ride in August. I put them to good use immediately. :)

What sort of beads are you using? I think I will go that route on the next set of tires. I'm tired or tire balancing and s****ing rims when the weights get torn off on rocks.

I've had good success with the "Dyna-bead". They balanced my first two sets of SS on my FJC but haven't ponied up for them on the most recent set. I examined the first set I used after they had been in the tires and they didn't appear to break-down just as advertised.

It is good to know that you can't knock off a wheel weight and they stay balanced even if you tear off a lug...

Here's what the front two looked like (for those not on the OBX trip)

I'm not sure what kind they were.... they were what ever my shop ordered.... If they don't work... which they haven't yet... i'll try something else

Getting the wheels painted black and equal put in as I type this

Nice!

They look good. Plus y'all will be a little safer too.

BTW, do you know if Galloway had any used 16" tires? Just curious...
