That sure looks like a 3-phase plug on the drill press to me, but I'm not an electrician. Are there 3 "hot" legs on the shut-off switch in that gray box?

Before going thru all the trouble to get it wired up, grab the chuck and see if there is any "slop" in the quill, which is the part that moves it up and down. If it wobbles any at all side-to-side in any direction, then the quill is worn out. I've seen a lot of those older Delta drill presses like that, heavily used and ready for the scrap heap.

Don't know anything about the stuff you got but I do like the word free. It maybe old and a lil outdated but for free it think it might just work.
Sweet deal....

Eric,

You suck! You and your free tools.

No play at all. Dont really think this thing was beat up so much or seen power in who knows how many years since it was stuff in a stoage room.

I think it did say 3 phase. but not sure havent had much time with 8 am to 9 pm school.

I did take a better pics when i got it home. try to check on friday my day off

Eric,

Me thinks that the almighty Pinhead is right and that is 3 phase...get another motor for that thing, pretty simple to do. You might be able to get a phase converter as well. I know nothing about 3 phase.

That Miller 200 mig that you have there looks like it has a spot timer built into it. That is what you need for the type of welding we were doing on Gene's truck. You don't "need" the spot timer, but it sure makes it easier and it tends to look nicer too.

Charles if a fan of those old Miller 200's as well.

Stick welders are handy for a few things. You can weld cast iron with them, you can hard surface, they are also great for welding dissimilar metals and dirty metals like farmers often have to when doing repairs . For example, you can weld two different kinds of steel together when doing a repair (hardened steel tooth to the mild steel frame of a land scape rake or plow for example - dozer blade tooth is another example). I found almost zero real use for the one I had and used mig or tig most of the time, but they stick process is here to stay.

No SKP-35 spot panel on the MM200. I have the spot panel, but have not tried it out yet on my MM200 welders.

that drill press looks like a real score! lots of times the old heavy duty machins are way better than anything you can buy now...in our carpentry shop we have a few machines that are from the 60's and they are brutes. enjoy the free tools

Eric,

What mig gun are you using? If you have a real old gun, it might be worth replacing with something newer.

Also, do you have the drive roll lined up? Proper tension?

tweco mig gun model no 2

That would be worth keeping if is not all beat up. Are your drive rolls clean and free from grease and grime?

Nice score on another freebie..

well the rollors are set for the .035 wire thats what I have and its clean. it was working great like 2 days ago.

anyways my uncle just stopped by not to long ago and he brought a converter and makes the 3 phase to single 220 faces. i dont know what he really did i just watched. lol. Just need the plug to hook it up to the wall. it worked tho.
