Yesterday morning about 6.30am, we had a very nice male chocolate lab show up at our place, he was soaking wet, we live by the boat launch so no suprise. We had never seen the dog before as well as none of our neighbors. He hung around and wouldn't leave, went to work, came home, still here. Posted some found signs, called all the local vets, the humane socity ect.

My best guess(and I am pretty sure I am right) is that someone abandoned him, they took him to the boat launch.........tossed the ball in the water and ditched him(not the 1st time its happened here) He has no desire to head back to the water, wants nothing to do with getting in the Cruisers.........think his last ride he got dumped :(

So........we decided to keep him, he loves the heck out of us AND Murphy(the old grumpy Sharpie) LOVES him....and she hates everyone/everything.....we took that as a sign :) Beau(my old yellow lab) isn't to happy but he will be OK with the new dog, Beau was a used dog when I got him....so he knows how it feels not be be loved

My guess is he is about 5-6 years old, still has his balls(he wont for long), he is purebread and very sweet, well behaved and very mellow. He acts like he might have been mildly abused, he is a little head shy, but not bad. He has NO desire to leave our property......he must have knew it was home. He won't leave my side...

So.......meet Heckler :D

I'll keep watching the paper for a lost lab and willl get him to the vet to get scaned.....but I am 95% sure he was dumped off

Congrats on the new dog. Labs are the best!!!

Good looking freebie. X2 on not getting him snipped for a couple of weeks.

EDIT:

Maybe not abandoned. Looks well fed.

I had a browndog growing up, and 2 blacks since. With both of my current Blacks, I was looking for a yellow and just thought the blacks looked better. My next will be a yellow.

thats so sad i cant believe people do that

do you ever go to the dog park there
i have been meaning to go to the dog park in gig harbor for a while and check it out ive got a chocolate lab weimereimer mix

oh yah and hes beautiful good for you

I knew that was going to be his name before I even clicked the thread to open it.

Now you need a second choc to name Koch.

oh, yeah I'll give it a bit, but this is the 5+ dog that has been dumped by my place/neighborhood in the last few years, I found homes for the rest of them.

I agree, he is well cared for. But I keep hearing of people that build new houses and won't take their dogs to the new house.......asshats! or folks are moving and cant find a home......they just dump the dogs. Our place is a prime spot for dumping as its a good neiborhood on the water....so the owners are at least hoping for good homes for there dumped dogs. I asked every person I saw on both sides of the bay if they have ever seen him.....not a one. and the neighbor next to the launch just said he saw him/Heckler and a person at the launch in the morning.......person gone, dog still there.......

Neat. Good on you.

Be prepared just in case the owners show up later on. Don't get him snipped until you have taken reasonable steps to finds the owners.

we considered Cruiser......but it didn't really sound right ;) If I girl it would have been Elsie ;)

Good on ya John.

Love dogs, they give way more than they take.

What a good looking boy.

Our 'hood is a known dropoff zone, too. Over the years, we've received dogs that would be $1,000+ at a breeder. They're usually 6-18 months old. Dog grows up, family gets tired of it, and voila. (Daddy: "Sorry, Spot is gone. I was walking him in the park, and he just slipped the leash and ran off. I looked everywhere." )

We've had some real sweet dogs come through here. Kids are just about old enough to walk a dog, so maybe the next one that comes through will be for us. :)

That's how we got our dog: abandoned. It's been absolutely great! I think it's wonderful, John.
