Okay. Thought I got rid of you guys after I sold the FJ40, but here I am again. FINALLY got a Hilux. Had to move to Costa Rica for it, but got it. Same color and model as the one we had in Afghanistan.

There was no detectable blowby from the dipstick. I did however notice that it smokes a bit under a lot of load. Air filter is good. What would be other things to check? Is it worth just replacing the injectors? The engine only has about 80,000 km on it. It is a turboed 3L motor. My other question would be what other options there are for an intake. Between the 2l and 3l and 5l, and RHD vs LHD it is hard to find a solid example. Still pulls fine uphill, and doesn't smoke at all when driving normally. I am guessing it is a fuel issue.

Also curious if there is a way to adjust the idle speed on here. I is running a bit above 1,000 rpm right now (without the AC running).

Congrats on the Hilux. It looks like this truck is an electronic pump and not the mechanical pump? On my 3L engines with mechanical pump, adjusting the idle is very simple- screw on pump.

Idle setting and A/C idle up can both be found in FSM.

As for air intakes, there's two types I'm aware of. Both pull from left side fender. One is for single battery setups, typically seen on Australia models. The other is seen more widely but in my experience Japan trucks.

The intake manifolds are different too. I swapped mine to an aussie manifold since I got my turbo kit from Berrima Diesel.

My current setup will be routing to the right side- after turbo install. Since the turbo is on that side and I find all the crossover pipes look way too cluttered.

I'm not aware of any aftermarket air box setups.

This airbox is on the RHD side because of the turbo as well. Makes for finding a snorkel a it of a PITA. Especially with the extremely limited selection of tools I have right now down here. I am definitely going to have to figure out a better intake for it though.

How many hiluxes do you have? You didn't by any chance buy one from a lady in Bozeman a few years back did you?

Are you considering putting in an inetrcooler, or should there not be a need to?

I have no plans for an intercooler on my 3L truck. I will be running modest boost and I do not plan to turn up my fuel. If I do turn it up, it will be 1/4 turn maximum on my fuel screw.

The pump was rebuilt by Dave at Back40 Imports in 2023. I may add a boost compensator but I will see how it runs before I do. I need a reliable and fuel efficient rig, not a racecar. And I absolutely beat the piss out of my trucks. 😂

Me and a buddy bought four total. First one started it all, '90 LN106 which had 65k miles. Drove it from Atlanta Georgia summer '22. We also ended up buying two LN107s and a YN107 gasser. None of them were from Bozeman though. Blue one found a new home, my buddy dailies the YN107, I kept the LN106, we will probably sell the remaining diesel hilux.

I saw this on ebay... picture shows an older style Hilux with left side snorkel. Who knows about the quality... take a chance on it and let me know? 😁

Let me know what you may sell the other diesel at. We have a place in MT that I would love having one at. I would DEFINITELY be interested in it.

Lady sold an LN106 RHD out from under me a few years back. I seriously though about finding a homeless woman to go down there and punch her in the face. One of those "I will send you the full amount right now" "No that isn't neccesary. It is yours." Then ghosted me the next day because someone paid more sight unseen. I even told her if someone offered more to let me know.

This one is the same color and everything as the one I drove in Afghanistan, so it all works out beautifully. I need a snorkle for this one just to keep the dust and dirt from killing the filter. Roads here are HORRIBLE.

Do you by chance have a spare center console sitting around? We have a friend in Boise that will be coming down this way.

Where in ID are you? We fishing steelhead out of Kamiah/Orofino.

Has some cancerous rust. Bad paint job in Japan, holes in front fenders and bed us in bad shape. Frame cab and underbody are mostly good. One rotten spot in rear frame wheel well, I see it on a lot of these. Interior is in great shape, and all original no mods, even factory radio. Mechanically sound. Runs amazing. We did a timing belt, fluids, glow plugs, tested the fuel pump, all that stuff on all the trucks after purchase. We are about $14k into it at this point. I'd be willing to let it go for that, otherwise I will keep it and (eventually) build a flatbed for it and repaint the cab. I was set on keeping it for awhile because I'll never get another for what we paid. But I bought a house recently and have been very very busy. If this sounds like something you're interested in, we could chat about it after the holidays.

Unfortunately I do not.

I just may be interested. Can you email me some pics?

My FJ40 some years ago came from Idaho Falls. We drove up from Vegas to get it.

I think it us actually a tach issue. The tach just dropped yesterday for no reason then came back several times. Thoughts?
