good year for an 80 series?

Some '93s had bad ecu's. Like mentioned above, the update in '95 is nice but really not worth breaking a deal if you find a good '94. However, full OBII did not come in until '96, '95 is limited in it's programing. The US '93-'94 auto trannies (a442f) have solenoid issues (not a big deal) but also some '95-early '97 trannies have reverse engagment issues (just missing some balls and springs :D) If you find one, like say my late model '97 there is no tranny issues. Duh but the pre-'95s didn't have dual air bags.

I still don't get the garbage comment on the auto climate control. Simply push the auto button to off and it's just like the typical climate control. The only thing is that it resets to recirulate when the switch is turned off. How can a climate control that uses outside temp and light intensity to control inside temp be garbage?

Glad you're happy with your A/C. Mine sucks. The biggest problem that I have with it is that it cools according to outside temperature. If I want to blast the a/c when it's not that cold out, I'm out of luck. It really doesn't seem to work all that well.

Still if the auto climate doesn't function comfotably simple turn it off and then for the most part it functions just like the others. If you really want, pull the climate control and flip the switch on the back to manual. The climate control issue is something very trivial and not worth considering when making a choice.

In your opinion. I don't care for it. I am aware that you can "flip the switch" on the other side. I really said it as an aside, but now I'm curious: did you design the auto climate control? You seem really bent out of shape over my criticisms.

Anyway, I've had the manual version and the auto version and the manual is better, in my opinion.

I have the auto climate control and I find it most useful in the winter. It cycles the AC/Defrost enough to do a good job at keeping the windows de-fogged. Also, it dosent start the blower until the heater core has warned up which is a positive in my opinion. My friend with a 96 LC complains about having to keep turning on the defrost to keep the windows clear. When the vehicle does heat up it tends to blow cool air. I found this irritating the first winter I drove mine. This past winter, it hasn't bothered me, so I guess I have gotten used to it.

I was thinking about my criticisms of the system this weekend, so I paid close attention to it while driving around. I think I've got it nailed down: I don't want my truck to be a certain temperature inside; I want to feel air of a certain temperature blowing. I want cold air that stays cold, not that warms up as the truck gets cooler.

I'm not bent about knocking the auto controls, I just think it's unfair to call it crap. It works well for a system over 10yrs. but like mentioned above, to regulate the temp. it will blow noticeably different temp. air out. At this point just turning the auto off stops it. Although adjusting the temp slider with auto off, the control will still try to switch the vents which requires the extra step to switch it back to what you want. I have to agree that the system works best in the winter but in my case also in the summer. It's so damn hot here the system is always trying to blow cold air. I guess in temperate seasons it can get annoying depending on personal preference

Either way I want to find a '94 with cloth seats to use as a trail rig but keep my '97 as my weekend cruiser.
