Anyone know of a good installer that is familiar with LCs in San Diego? I need to have my windshield removed and reinstalled properly as I am getting some wind noise and water ingress from the PS A-pillar area. I park in the garage and generally don't drive in the rain so it hasn't been much of an issue until recently. The PO had the windshield replaced at DCH Toyota in Torrance using OEM glass (which is in good condition), but the install quality was lacking.

After reading a few threads here and the FSM pdf that RobRed posted, I went out to inspect my truck. I peeled back the inner strip from the side trim pieces and discovered there were no rivets. Could missing rivets cause noticeable wind noise and water ingress? Both sides are missing the rivets but only the PS is making noise/leaking.

I called the local Safelite, and they won't touch it unless they replace the glass. I also called a local Toyota dealer recommended installer and he said there is a good chance the windshield will crack when removing (is this true?) Best case is the glass install is OK and I just need to have the trim reinstalled properly, but the glass may need to be done as well, not sure. I am hoping the former.

Thanks in advance for any insight or recommendation.

I am having my mom's done at my house this week. Same situation, previous owner had glass replaced, reused moldings and probably no rivets based upon wind noise from passenger side. The plan is to remove the moldings and go from there, replacing glass, rivets, moldings as needed. Likely it will all have to come out since there is a wind noise. I'm hoping there isn't any rust on the roof or a-pillar. I'll try to take some pictures if I'm around.

The glass definitely can break when removing it. Parts of the glass are unsupported and when the installer starts breaking the seal and pulling on the glass it's not hard to break it. I'd definitely try to find someone that will at least try to save your glass since it's OEM. There is a PPG in my mom's right now and will replace with that if it breaks. The size if rivets might be a consideration too (I believe they have to be drilled out), I don't think they are all the same size.... So an experienced installer is the best.

I have a whistle from my (aftermarket) windshield the PO had installed - been thinking about my options, happy to see this thread. please update as you guys move forward, I'll do the same...

please keep us posted. have same whistling from the PS a pillar and just starting to research a fix.

Sub'd for the same problem, and in SD. Mine appears to have an OEM windshield installed poorly as well. Whistle from DS top. No leaks though.

I'd give Mark a call:

Explain your issue and see what he can do. After calling around to a bunch of places, I called Mark and he was able to custom cut a new windshield glass for my FJ40. He did a great job and seems to be somewhat old school, so I'm guessing he'll do the install as you request (new rivets, etc). I can't vouch for him on the 100 install, as I only had him do my FJ40, but he did do a great job and I was a very happy customer.

Same issue here with a leak on the drivers side. I may just pay the $308 to have the safelite replacement. I would love to see pictures of the removal which may help me decide if I can just silicone it up like I did for a seal leak on my sunroof.

FYI, I just talked to my buddy who is a tech at my local Toyota dealership and he told me who they use for windshields (ABRA), so I called them. They knew all about the 100 series and said they'd send someone out Friday to see if they can simply seal it and stop the leak - if so it's < $100. If they have to pull the windshield to redo the seals entirely, they said there's about a 50% chance it breaks in the process, and replacing it with their version of the OEM glass (bronzed, even!) is just over $500 using all new clips, rivets, inner and outer seals, etc.

I'll update Friday...

I called out to the ABRA reps here in Seattle and they quoted $125 for full re-seal. Same chances of breakage. Full replacement at $278 if that happens. Not sure if the OEM glass option is an improvement. Any comment on glass quality for replacements?

Price seems low. Replacing moldings & rivet parts are about $250 alone. Maybe you can get by without all new moldings.

Whistle from drivers a pillar. Puddle on my passenger floor last storm. Safelite..... Your lifetime warranty against leaks means nothing now that I've shipped my car to an island with no safelite >.<

So yeah. I like this thread too =)

Yup - that sounds like the price for the glass alone.

I think I found someone good - Heckman Glass Masters, highly recommended by a local Lexus dealer. I called and spoke with him for a bit and he seems very knowledgeable about the specifics of our windshields like how to install the moldings, which rivets to use (or that it even uses rivets, obviously the other installer missed that), etc. He suggested a few things to try first before chancing removing the glass and having it break. I most likely will be giving him a call when the time comes to get this fixed right.

I feel like there needs to be a thread with installers everyone has had good luck with in their area.

In Dallas/Fort Worth, I've had great luck with Clear Vision Auto Glass. It's just one guy and he knows his stuff and never cuts corners or commits to something he can't do. He's done several cars for me and never had an issue.

No website, but here's their info.

I used safelite auto glass in sd when someone broke into my car. They were very quick and professional. Would rec to anyone. Not the cheapest around though.

ABRA came out today and found a spot under the bottom molding that he though might be the cupric, so he added some adhesive in that spot, I have to let it cure for bait, but should know more this afternoon. If that doesn't fix it, I'll just have them replace the whole thing, using new moldings...

Bad news when the glass guy tore into mine today. The previous installer glued the old moldings down, no rivets (likely cause of wind noise), and a pretty good rust spot going on the passenger side near the roof line. Going to have Lexus clean up the mess and paint the a-pillars. Hopefully not any more damage when the old glass comes out. $660 estimate on the body work, plus $800 for all new moldings and aftermarket glass install.

A word of advice, if a 100 looks like it has a new glass and old moldings, it will probably need to be cut out and done properly. Or just buy one with the factory glass in it. I knew this going in when my mom bought this car, but got a good deal so there was some cushion for repairs.

Sorry to hear that. My moldings are glued down and no rivets like yours. I was going to leave it alone until I had to replace the windshield, but now I am worried about rust. Why would gluing the molding cause rust?

I was hoping to be able to tape the holes or use silicone as a quick fix.
