How about some opinions on a good floor jack
Heavy duty, good lift range, easy to use 100-150 range to work on cruiser type vehicles Mine took a s*** this weekend
thanks
Don

Costco sells a good looking one.

The costco one is actually crap
They leak and fail They also get hard to turn and roll . The one I have that failed is a costco one from a few years ago
Look at the reviews Same issues I had.

Just an FYI for your guys
Any other suggestions?

Man, I'd love to know too. I'm using an old 1.5T one that is on it's last legs, and none too beefy for 1/2 of the cruiser.

I assume you're talking about that Torin on the website, thats not the one I've seen in the store. I want to say it was Alcan...?

The sad fact is, all floor jacks have become disposable. I know of no local repair center that does a reliable/cost effective repair, so pick your poison. IMHO Costco has the best return policy, so at least you will get as much life as that allows.

The only cost effective repair is diy. Unless greased, they all become hard to roll, is it a caster wear issue or just bound up? Where is it leaking from, some of the seals are available and simple to replace, others aren't worth it at the price that the jacks sell for new. Most just add oil and ignore minor leaks.

Unfortunately none of them are built to even a fraction of the quality of the "old days". It's a crap shoot, one may work really well, another from the same source junk, they are made to a price point. I would buy from the place who has the best return policy.

Best return policy would be Costco

So I have this heavy red floor jack from Costco I received for Xmas should I take it out of the box or take it back?

If you need to pick up something heavy, like a car or truck, I would take it out of the box. They are relatively difficult to use in the box.

If you don't have an immediate need to pick up anything heavy, leave it in the box. They are easier to store in the box.

If your never going to have the need to pick up heavy stuff, return it. They are heavier than necessary for a paper weight!:flipoff2:

Its not bothering me any, its not in my part of the house:hillbilly:

I was looking at that jack from Costco as the Sears jack I got was junk compared the the Sears jack I bought 15 years ago. So is it a good jack or just a good paper weight? :hhmm:

This thread came up when I was searching, hope it's OK for an outsider to post. If not let me know and I'll delete.

I have the Costco jack and.....it's basically junk. It matches my 4 year old "Big Red" jack that is completely and totally junk.

It will lift your truck, but it does not inspire confidence. I wish I had saved the $150 and put it toward the Milwaukee jack (which is crazy expensive but a beautiful piece of equipment). When this Costco jack goes bad I'm buying a real USA made jack. Something like this:

Petersen's Hydraulic Jacks: Milwaukee 4 Ton Service Jack

It's really a bummer that a decent jack is unaffordable, and the cheap ones are such garbage. Too bad there isn't a decent middle ground.

Is it the Torin? If not, and you don't know the brand, could you describe it- steel or aluminum, color, etc?

Click here for the link to the ARCAN XL35R floor jack. This is the exact jack I picked up at our Costco for $92. A quick search on the net and all I found were positive feedbacks.

I checked that out on the way home tonight at Costco. Looks beefy. Take yours out of the box and let us know what you think. Hard to go wrong for the price.

Yes-THe Torin 3.5 ton with the side foot pedal. I do not like it, though it currently works.

One thing I'm not jazzed about is its weight...100lbs:eek:

Let me know where thie thread eventually goes....I picked up an ancient Sears jack for "temporary" use 8 years ago, used, at a garage sale for 10 bucks that is just now starting to lose my confidence as it has been put to a workout with constant work truck repairs lately...
