maybe...seems tad bit low on max weight limit.

i have this 12,000 pound line in my mind for vehicle recovery. if your just hauling logs for fire wood, and pulling out friends on an icy morning...8,000 seems ok at best. shackels and pullies will double your abilities, but then there is the set up. I might be tempted if there was not serioous off road 4x4 being done. have fun choosing. i am going down that road myself as well.

Yeah im basically wanting to find something to pull someone or myself out of the mud or snow. And I really dont have $1500 to spend on a winch.

look at the tmax winches. I got my 10k lb winch for pretty cheap, and they are very well made, every bit as good as warn IMO.

I would

Found this online the other day. This seems pretty cheap. Would you guys go with this?

Premium Series: M8000 With Roller Fairlead | Truck Accessory Liquidators

That looks like a pretty good price and 8000 lb is plenty big for an FJ40. I forget the formula that's a rule of thumb for sizing a winch in relation to the vehicle weight but I've checked it before and 8000 is fine. As was said, you can use a pulley block to double the pull. A couple of years ago 4 Wheel Wholesalers had this winch for right around $500 or a little less and I should have bought one. I checked the other day and the prices are way up on WARN. You might check Clemson Off-Road, they usually have good prives on WARN and usually free shipping.

Why is the Warn so much more expensive vs. the T-Max? Is it pretty much paying for the name?

That same winch was available through several vendors last year for 100 bux less......
