Family is headed to gold beach oregon in august. Does anyone have any info on fishing the rogue or some good offroad sight seeing trails ?

How about bear camp rd, take that little scenic drive Mr. Kim. Other than that I have no suggestions.

I have never run the Bear Camp Rd. I did stop coming from Gold Beach due to snow once, in JUNE. It was posted at that time. You can fish there at the ocean, don't know if that is too early for fall Chinook. Definitely go up the road a ways. The jetboats are fun but I haven't ran the ones down there. Hellgate excursion out of Grants Pass are fun, the dinner trip is kind of over rated, take the wild and scenic tour and then spend your money at a good restaurant. If you get down to Brookings run up the Chetco for some awesome clear-water swimming.

My parents fish the rogue every year. Im going up for the first time. We are chartering a boat they use for 2 days. Im going to tow my bass boat up. After fishing there Ill probably head to Shasta or Clearlake and do some bass fishing. Just dont know what im getting into fishing the Rogue river.

If you are taking the bass boat, August is prime time for Tenmile or Siltcoos Lakes, just a little further up the coast. I would also consider a guided bass trip out of Elkton on the Umpqua River. Check out theoregonangler.com , I've been fishing this stretch with Todd Hannah for almost 20 years now. August is 100 fish per day bass fishing! I often consider a move to that part of the state because the fishing opportunites are bewildering. Then I remember the part about having to earn a living....

Ill look into those lakes. Im seriously into bass. Salmon & steelhead are new to me coming from Nevada. After the charter I will looking for some bass fishing The closer to Gold Beach the better, Thanks

I grew up in Gold Beach. I have't fished there in over thirty years though, I haven't even been back in ten years or so. All the dirt roads I knew are probably closed or paved by now.

The jet boat trips are a gas, by Aug the river should be low enough to be fun.The smaller boats are more costly but a lot more fun then the Mail boats. There should be a full day excursion that goes up to Paridise Bar, stops for lunch then comes back. There use to be an overnight trip that went to Barbarian Lodge, if you are into the river run thing that is a great trip if it is still available.

If the weather gets crappy, as it can in Aug., just head up river a few miles. It's amazing how fast the sun comes out when you start heading inland. IIRC there is a good swimming hole around the Elephant Rock area.

Just south of town is Hunters Creek, if you follow it inland until you get to High Bridge there is a great little beach and swimming hole. It's a locals favorite.

I use to fish the creek after school for salmon. It was a tough life as a kid there.:grinpimp:

Hope this helps.
Dan
