Anyone know of an installer friendly set of seats to put in a 71 Landcruiser? I want buckets and it currently has some non-OEM buckets in it now, but they aren't going to match my new color scheme. The truck is in transit from CO to my locale now, but I've seen plenty of pics of them, and they need to go. I'm heading to a U-Pull-It yard this weekend and was wondering what vehicles I should concentrate on looking for decent seats that are relatively easy to put in the 71 FJ? Thanks!!

Anything is going to be custom install. There is not any bucket seats made that are a bolt in affair or an easy install because of the original design.

If you do not have your truck to measure your current seat frame, it is going to be a shot in the dark to go and find a couple bucket seats and hope they fit it.

If it were me, I would wait until the truck gets there so that you can look at the existing mounts and find something that may be close since there are many different mounting styles and track widths for seat frames.

:meh:

X2!! Wait till you get the rig, measure then go get a set.

I just finished installing a set of buckets from a mid 90's Honda with homebrew seat brackets. Heck you can pretty much put whatever seat you want. You just have to fab up the brackets for them. I'll post pics of my setup later when I have my camera available.

That's exactly what info I'm looking for. Someone with pics or at least info on what ones they used and how they fabbed them up to fit into the vehicle. I'm planning on installing a tuffy center console and don't want to get a set too wide. I think you guys are right though. I'll just wait until the vehicle arrives. I'm going up there with a buddy for parts he needs and I thought it would save me another trip.

I believe I have some Acura (or Honda) seats, and used the original framework when mounting the seats. I will try and get some pictures of them up for you to see. I will also get measurements of the space between the seats for the sake of the console.

i got a set out of a..

92 toyota 4-runner, they need a frame built, but you may need to do that on any seat you get. i am looosing my under the driver seat storrage box, so i can mount the drivers seat lower for gas pedal ergonimics.

I just got my FJ40 ('76), they came with seats from a '95 Escort according to the paint marking on the side. They seem ok, although I have some nice Corbeau Baja SS's that I plan on swapping in.

I found a kickass deal on a set of front buckets from a 2005 Highlander. The driver has power everything. Bought the set for $250.00 it took a good bit of fabrication, but they're awesome!

Only till after I got them in did I realize that they don't fold forward enough to let someone in the back!

SO.....

You'll need to find a seat that actually folds flat (or almost) as you've gotta get to the 'way-back'.

Best of luck in your search!

Here's a couple of pics. It'll give you a decent idea of what I did. I kept the original drivers seat bracket and modded the seat from to fit it. The passenger side was fabbed using 1" steel tube welded together and bolted into the stock locations.
The seats are out of a Honda sport compact.

Cant remember what year for sure, but I'm thinking '91 or 2 honda accord.

positioned the sliders & welded them to the stock seat brackets. I didn't care about color, but I'm sure you can find some that match what you're looking for.

I bought a set of '96 Saturn coupe buckets from the bone yard. They were having a 50% off sale, SO I got the pair for $25.00 Not the easiest install, but I am pleased with the results. The passenger seat folds forward and then slides forward for access to the rear. Good for the kiddies. Nice, comfortable seats with bolster and recliners.

hi,

I used 2001 toyota camry seats. I had to fab a bracket but it wasn't hard. The camry seats are nice as they have front/back adjustments, tilt, and a dial for pushing up the front cushion up. A couple of considerations:

1. If the bolts holes for the replacement seats are flat or can be bent flat, that'll help with making a bracket. The camry seat front bolt holes (see pic from post #12) could be bent flat and the driver's rear left was flat while the rear right side was vertical. I made a bracket for the front. The rear left fit one of the existing bolt holes in the 40 and I had to take a piece of angle iron to make a rear right bracket. I drilled holes in the 40's floor for the front bracket bolts.

2. the passenger side bracket can put the seat up higher than the driver's side as you have to clear the gas tank. See post #11. It's only about two or three inches but may bother you. If it does, you may want to get seats that have a low/short cushion.

I also found the right height from sticking in bricks and 2x4's. You don't have as much room for front back adjustments as you run into the wheel well. The seats fit well and I like driving with them in. hth, ty

I am just now at this point. I have accord and civic seats sitting here if you need pics. I never even thought about the height of the seats being an issue. Crud..... My better seats are the accords and they are the thicker seats!!

I also have a 71 cruiser, so here is what I did. I got a couple of buckets out of 86 camaro. They are pretty low profile and fairly narrow. I have found them to be very comfortable. Any way, I fabbed the mounts into the roll cage. There is 7 inches in between the seats. I do not know if that is enough for a center console. Since I am way better at working on cars than computers, I hope these pics will make it. Good luck!

Try looking for seats out of a 2dr coupe of some sort with back seats. I have been driving an 88 bmw M6 lately, and those seats are sweet. Power everything and they fold forward to allow you access to the back. I'm sure those will be hard to come by, but there are plenty of 4 seat, 2 door cars out there these days.

These seats are out of a 4 door honda accord. The disadvantages are they are 17.5 center to center of hole as seen in the pic vs. the stock 19.5 (not that would be hard to mod). The other disadvantage is they are thicker as seen in the measurements. The pics suck and the true measurements are about 5" from bottom of bracket to where your but sets which is compared to about 4" on an FJ40 (1976) and the front is 8" vs. 5-6" on an fj40. The pics make it look thicker but it isnt assuming you bend the mounts flat. Also the seats dont fold forward so it would be rough getting someone in the back especially compared to the stock seats.
