Going to Haiti

I'll be visiting a friend in Haiti in April and he's asked me to try and think of parts to bring down that he should be stocking, i.e., difficult to get in a 3rd world country. Anyone with experience on this? Oh yeah, it's an HJ61. Oil, fuel and air filters are no big deal. Other stuff?

Glow plugs (12v ones not available here in Guatemala), QUALITY brake pads and shoes (the local ones DO NOT LAST), calipers and wheel cylinders (generally they rebuild their own as professionally rebuilt parts are not available).

Thanks cruiser_guy. Good suggestion on the brake parts. I guess the HJ61 would have a glow screen and not glow plugs- can anyone chime in on how long the last? Should I be bringing him one of those?

front axle rebuild kit .. cheap ( relative ), flighty bearings and seals. Vaccum pump rebuild kit . ? lights .. markers ..

Maybe some factory belts and what of the thought of an extra alternator?

Bring down some sodder and loads of heat shrink, definately bring at least a couple of air filters, although I'm sure they're available down there.

Maybe some window tint (and razor blades for installation) to keep things cool inside and one of those windsheild shades.

Can you tell I have a friend down in Turks and Caicos.

Ask him how his flex lines are holding up with the heat and sea air.

PS, Don't forget to bring his girly/wife some high quality mousse for her hair, you'll gain some tire kicking points.

Starter contact kit
Alternator brushes
clutch master rebuild kit
clutch slave rebuild kit
Outer pinion bearing
Pinion seal
front axle tube seals
TRE rebuild kit (draglink at steering box)

All cheap stuff that'll fit in a suitcase
