How easy is it to take out the chrome lock strip? Is it easy to re-install the new stuff?

Taking the old chrome lock strip off was easy. The black lock strip is slightly larger in width and thickness than the chrome stuff, so be patient going in with it. For some reason, the cargo windows were more difficult than the hatch window and the windshield. Like I said before, lots of soapy water, a lock strip tool, and a six pack of your favorite brewski should do the trick. For me, the results were worth it.

Spraying with LPS3 is a good idea, hadn't thought of that before sealing mine.

No problem, you can lift off the plastic sill plate in the door way./ From there you will see the white plastic blocks that the screws go into. Just pry them up. And buy some LPS3 with a straw. Spray in all the areas you can reach.

Now to get really funky, pull the side interior off of the rear cargo area(its held on with snap fasteners) and then you can see all around the wheel arch on the inside. Try squirting a whole bunch of LPS down the arc towards the rocker panel. The two join up there. That is a heavy rust area from the inside out. And you Mercans have some clean trucks. Don't want to have them rot away on ya.

Soapy water works good, but a few years ago I had an opportunity to replace ALL the windows in a transport bus. There were (i think) 11 windows per side, and they all had the lock strip. We used WD-40 instead of soapy water. Well holy crap, those strips just about fell into the track. There was a bit of a mess to clean up afterward, but nothing that wouldn't come off in the wash bay.

If the strip doesn't seem to be working that well for you, try the WD and maybe cut off a couple beer from the six pack required... Umm, well, maybe just stick with the water and use up the whole sixer.

Air & Tech -
Spray 'em with silicone lubricant (over a trash can so you don't make a skating rink out of your garage). And silicone makes rubber look real good.

Thanks for the WLS466 tip, Air - it must be for an old GMC van (windshield numbers are assigned by year in groups to car manufacturers - the new Taco is a 2500).

Is that on the "Lost Dutchman" trail? looks familiar, but then again, so does a lot of AZ...
That's Robbers' Roost AKA Shaman's Cave in Sedona. Nice hike -- plus the last .8 miles before you reach the trailhead is a lil wheelin trip.
