Bumper is accounted for already, but you can be 2 on my list if it falls through. I did the grill with sandpaper, solvent to clean, and the best rustoleum flat black they make. I have rubbed bugs off of the paint and the paint stays!!! :grinpimp:

you can also use a blast cabinet (carefully) paint with semi-gloss "bumper" paint. 8 months, no probs...

In what department did you find those? I got some plastic body plugs from the parts store, but they were too big.

Got mine at an Ace Hardware in the hardware section where they have a good assortment of connectors, etc. They have a ribbed post that kindof grabs when pushed in. I added some topcoat/finish putty (can't remember what it's called) on the inside of the plug as an adhesive and to add a seal and fill any gap that may result. Wipe it clean and let it dry then paint. I blast dry mud off mine and they haven't budged, cracked or fallen out.

Thanks, Ace is the place!

Oh, and here's a pic of our speckly dog, Moon. We think she's some kinda cattledog / pit / somethin r other:

I really like the blackout look, once money is flowing again i think my rig is getting that treatment. Did you just paint the emblems black, or did you hit the letters with a contrasting color?

Oh, and eastwood has a metal blackening system that looks like the hot ticket if you wanted to do the handles/locks, its a black oxide coating that is applied in a solution kinda like electroplating. I bet it would turn out looking a lot more factory than paint, and prolly more durable too. You could even do all the other hardware like the striker and such so it all has the blackout look. http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=12225&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=400&iSubCat=407&iProductID=12225

I now understand mine's cattle dog and italian greyhound. Odd mix I guess but she's a good dog - great riding on the trail too :)

i don't believe that works on chrome, would work for the bare metal parts no problem though.

Is it bake-on? or heat activated? I originally wanted to P/C my badges, but they are plastic under metal (melting!) so I had to sandblast and paint with bumper black...it wasn't much cash for the trim- a little elbow grease and less than $10 on paint; the P/C was the only real cost involved.

Is that on the "Lost Dutchman" trail? looks familiar, but then again, so does a lot of AZ...

Best paint for "blacking out" is Morton's Black - available at better auto paint stores (or used to be). Goes right over chrome & sticks.

Personally, I like sandblasting & powder coating 70% gloss black. Tried flat black on my wife's VW Cabriolet years ago & it oxidized pretty badly.

If anyone's interested, I can find lock strip to replace the chrome around the windows. Don't know how to get rid of the strips under the roll-up windows ("wipers"). Maybe just Morton's. I'd like to PC my door handles, too. Or black chrome (way $). How about a black Middle East hood ornament?

Big -
Kevin said a glass shop gave him the lock strip. I wouldn't be so generous (unless you were a good old customer & I had it lying around).

What I meant is that I would have my auto glass guy match it up with a specific, available lock strip. It looks to me like one from an old Dodge pickup might work. I could try it on my hatch window since we had to pull it so I could get into the truck after locking my keys in it (?!). The bottom strip didn't make the return trip & it looks dorky now.

You got any more pics of your cruiser? I'm really think of going with a dark grey.

thanks

Not sure what grit paper I used on grill. The color is just a GM dark gray color code from 2003. You will see same color on some Suburbans and Tahoes.

After painting my cruiser, and re-installing all the glass, I replaced the chrome lock strip with black lock strip - looks much better. My windshield installer gave me a 100 foot roll of it and said his cost was about 22 bucks and change. The label on the box says WLS-466 R-100 . (For GM vans and Trucks). Any windshield shop can look this up in their catalog and order it. To install it, use lots of soapy water and a lock strip tool.
